Both guys are great players and are each having a great season so far and my question is who do you think is better right now and who will become the better player in the near future ?
Both have talent, but JR will be the better player. His attitude and shot selectiomn is questionable, but if he can be directed the right way, he'll be a hell of a player. His talent is off the charts, he's an excellent shooter, and he is very athletic, and can put the ball on the floor. He has the talent to be a star player and a 24+ ppg guy.
JR Smith is just on another level. He can shoot and he's an elite athlete. He just has to work on defense and rebounds and some other parts of the game. He's a couple of years ahead of Dorell Wright in development.
Right now, J.R. is definitely ahead of Dorell. He is a good scorer, he's a freak athlete, he can hit the long ball, and he fits nicely in Denver's fast break system. He's better than Wright as of now. But, in the future, it's going to be a different story, IMO. What you see is what you get with J.R. Smith - scoring/shooting and athleticism. I don't see him ever really being much more. Sure, he should improve, but I don't think his all-around game will top Wright's in the future. Wright is still raw, but he can get to the basket, he's very athletic as well, he's a GOOD defender, he's a good rebounder, and he actually is a much better passer than I ever thought. Wright has the better future ahead of him than Smith, IMO.
I agree with CB32 of course, just look at my sig. Right now, JR is the better player, but in the future I think Dorell can become the better player. He's arguably our best rebounder right now without Shaq amazingly. At the same time he's a solid defender, and is just as athletic as JR. Also you have to take into account this is really his FIRST season of actually playing. JR has had consistent playing time since his rookie season, being drafted just before Wright with the 18th and 19th picks. While on the other hand DW's been riding the bench the past two seasons. He also reminds me so much of a young T-Mac, but it's way too early to tell if he'll ever be even nearly as good. It's pretty funny, because I remember us having this same exact comparison topic last season, but it was completely lopsided in JR Smith's favor.

I don't care what the stat sheet has said the past week, Dorell Wright is not a better rebounder than Udonis Haslem. 2. JR has only had his rookie season and this month of consistant playing time. During his 2nd season, last year, he was in Byron Scott's doghouse, plus he was hurt for a little. He only played in about 45-50 games. 3. It's very unlikely Wright will ever be anywhere close to T-Mac's level. Either way, there aren't that many similarities, IMO. They play so differently. Two totally different styles.

Still, it's more than double the playing time Wright has gotten.Remember, I'm talking about a young T-Mac. He's developed a lot since his early years.

A better comparison to a young T-Mac is the guy in my sig: Gerald Green.
Mmmm... potential is a dangerous word.I'll believe Dorell Wright is better when I see results that back that up.Till then my nod goes to Smith.
Jr Smith IMO is clearly the better allaround player. Yes he did struggle greatly last season, but that was due to injury and since Scott was constantly in this young mans case. In hsi rookie season JR showed great promise, and he is once again showing the talent he has. Last night was a perfect exampel of that, a game in which he was able to take over in the third quater, and open the lead up. Once he develops a defensive game, or atleats something that resembles one, his carrer can really take off
I think Dorell will be the better all around player. He's bigger, better defender, better rebounder, tougher inside and will eventually develop a better offensive game.

Smith is extremely talented, and is a better athlete. He can reallly become a great scorer in this league
Give me JR Smith right now and for the future. Smith is the better shooter, Better scorer, He's more athletic. Wright is the better rebounder and defender (defense still could use some work). It all depends on what you're team is looking for. If you want a phenomenal offensive player that can drop 30 on any given night then JR Smith is your man. If you would rather have a tough defender that rebounds well than you should give the nod to Wright. They're both the same age.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>But, in the future, it's going to be a different story, IMO. I have to go with Balla on this one. I think that Wright may turn out to be a more well rounded player, but I don't see him as a big time scorer. I think if Smith can get his attitude in check he could be an elite scorer.
Balla, Wright is an above average defender. Maybe I shouldn't have said "GOOD," but most definitely above average, IMO, especially when comparing his defensive abilities to the terrible average defender in this league.
Wright is a good defender considering the level of experience he has gotten in the NBA. But I dont see him blossoming into a great player if hes planning to say in Miami.
I honestly think that this comparison has been solved by JR's play over the last few weeks. He has shown that he can be a VERY explosive scorer on the NBA level. Although he doesn't give much else, his offensive game is so great for how young he is that I cant give Dorrell the edge. Wright is the better defender and rebounder, but I give everything else to JR.

Dorrell Wright needs more PT. Jr Smith, right now, is better then Wright. But a couple years from now, it might be a different story...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (D12Howard @ Dec 16 2006, 02:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Dorrell Wright needs more PT.</div> He plays 26 mpg (30 mpg in the last 10 games) and he is starting over Antoine Walker now. He has earned minutes and the starting job.
