Gay has one year left on his current deal, which will pay him $19.3 million.

The extension begins with the 2015-16 season, and includes a player option for the the 2017-18 season, sources told Yahoo Sports. The ability to exit the deal early gives Gay a chance to become a free agent in the summer of 2017, when he’ll be 31 and the market will be flush with the proceeds of the new $24 billion television package.

Damn, I actually had him as a dark horse because I think he'd be a great third option on offense.

The role he plays for them at times which is one that is similar to some with max contracts. Yeah, its a great deal.

So I guess the hope for the Kings is he has a Zach Randolph type of career arch? He was a promising young player, got a max contract, then was discarded by multiple teams.

If I were running the Kings I wouldn't have offered him that much but its not the worst extension I've seen. The Faried deal looks worse. Funny both were somehow on Team USA.

The Kings have nothing to lose and the risk from their perspective is worth it

Rondo will be dealt to the Kings. Now that they have committed to their core, I believe it happens.

Wouldn't it be great to have yet another fantastic western team we have to face like 4 times a year?

I think they would regress so much if they did that. But I would love to see how long it took Cousins and him to go after each other.

Meh, Rondo dealt with KG for years. Cousins can't be any worse.

I dont know about that. Cousins looks so happy on the court and is playing great both sides of the ball. Couldn't figure out what had changed to keep Cousins head on straight, did team USA have that much of an impact. Zach Lowe had a podcast that had an intresting idea on why Cousins was having such a good year on both sides of the court and staying cool headed, Lowe figured having Collison pass the ball instead of pulling the over dribbling and constant shooting Thomas did has just made Cousins more focused and happy.
If Lowe is onto something having a PG who does an even better job of getting Cousins the ball could be just as beneficial.

While dreaming of being the team's GM this year so far.......I had hoped secretly that we could find some way to swing a Batum for Rudy Gay deal. I think Gay would really succeed in this offense and with not being the #1 man on the team. He offers scoring from the middle and from the line, not so much from the arc. I like that best.
Just seems he would have been a nice fit for playing with Aldridge and Lillard.

Gay can score with the best of them but he can't space the floor, defend or distribute to Batum's level. Gay needs to be a #1 or #2 at all times, we just don't need a player like him in the starting lineup.

Let's not get carried away. Gay can't play defense and requires the ball in his hands to be effective. You want it out of Aldridge or Lillard's hands?

That seems like a fair assessment. I do like the notion that boogie is happier because of the point guard situation. Rondo could make that much better if that is the case. But team chemistry is a tricky thing. They call it chemistry for a reason. Mix one chemical improperly and you've got an explosion. The Blazers staff don't get enough credit for how good a job they have done in getting guys that not only match the system, but fit in with the players personalities. It's very rare to find that, and it is kind of like the Stars aligning when it does.
