Gorney and Biggins reporting KLS will be picking UCLA. So with gallimore passing and Cowart and his long running oregon is leading joke amd not visiting. We've wiffed on our five star linemen. Missed on ude for the jokers, looks like we'll grab a handful of low rated 3 star JC to finish the class
I'm not sure where you're reading Gorney has reported that. It's not on rivals and thats who he works for. On twitter he's alluded to KL-S possibly committing there following this weekends SoCal clash, but thats more of a rehashing of speculations then a new development. 247 is speculating on Cowart showing (thats what they do on everything) but there has been zero quotes from him, so we'll see. Remember what a bummer it was when they closed with low rated 3* Charles Nelson last year? It's not what a prospect is rated that matters, it's who they turn out to be. I'll be surprised if unlike past years Oregon doesn't finish the recruiting cycle with a flourish. STOMP
What I heard on the podcast yesterday at least is that Oregon has distanced themselves from both Gallimore and Cowart. It would be massively incompetent to do this and not try to get these guys on campus UNLESS Oregon didn't feel South and Manu were done deals. Knowing our D line is of desperate need for retooling I've got to HOPE our coaches know something we don't! Otherwise our D recruiting again for the 3rd year has missed on a gravy train of D line talent! Hard to believe the #2 team in the nation is having this kind of problem. I guess we'll know soon enough!
KLS commits to UCLA. Nelson is a bad example we were afterhim for awhile. Now we are looking at fillers like benoit and hobbs were.
Nelson committed at the end of January and he was a low rated 3*. He's a perfect example. Oregon is still after many other 3* of various high-low ratings that they've been after for a while... not sure what your point is bummer on KL-S tho... bring on Mufi! STOMP
If thats how you feel, how were you drooling all over KL-S who is listed at the same height and only 5 pounds more then Hunt? Some Drop End prospect perspective... Mufi Hunt 6'6 215 Justin Hollins...6'5 205 as a HS Sr. One year later he's up to 220 Dion Jordan...the gold standard of Oregon Drop Ends with the exact same 6'6 215 HS Senior year listings as Hunt STOMP
Jordan is a terrible example, he deveolped great but didn't really peak until his last year. Which is about was great, but that is a high end situation for a 3 star who was coming off injury and was projected as TE by most. could another 3 star develop over a few years... sure. But with our LB weakness and players graduating we were hoping for a true freshman who could start or contribute heavily right away. Generally 5 stars fit that mold better, not because they have the same weight and height as other prospects, but because they are often technically better.
2 things that I disagree on. 1) Majority of players peak, when they are in the system longer and get more comfortable. Most good players dont peak early and regress. (barring injury) 2) I'd Argue that Dion hit that peak in his Junior year and maintained it. He had higher sack totals and TFL totals in his junior year, but factoring in 2 less games played his senior year, the numbers are pretty similar. http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/dion-jordan-1.html
the comparison was made because Zalsa said Hunt was too skinny of a Drop End prospect. I gave several examples that ran directly counter including Dion. It doesn't matter at all where some people had Dion projected, as the comparison addressed where Hunt is projected and how big he was compared to previous Drop Ends. For the record, Dion was a 2 time All Pac 10/12 selection so his dominant period was more of a plateau then a peak. Also, like Dion, Hunt plays TE in HS as well as DE. Who is this "we" you're speaking of? While I and others have complained a hell of a lot about the LB play, it's the inside guys that I've singled out time and again... in fact I can recall doing this recently in response to you. I'm certainly not part of this "we" hoping for a true freshman to start over their returning players who happen to include some guys who were very highly rated back in HS. Heck, I'm struggling to recall the last true Freshman LB who contributed heavily right away let alone started. Oregon graduates only 2 guys from their LB core next season and of course only Tony Washington plays outside. That means they're returning 3 of their top 4 outside LBs... hardly desperate straights. In Hollins and Heard, they've a couple promising young guys behind them who are developing... haven't you noticed Hollins on kickoff coverage? He's going to factor IMO. I'm totally comfortable with them adding only a single 3* talent at outside LB who is felt to have a high upside as A) the need isn't for next season & B) the staff has shown the ability to develop talent. I've my fingers crossed on Houston & Tevis for Inside LB... I've also hopes that Ragin Swain & Mattingly will develop like so many young Duck LBs have done in the past. Lastly this nonsense about 5*s being ready to start. Their recent 5*s have been Tyner, Seastrunk, DAT & Colt. Of those only DAT proved ready to start, and 25% is a pretty piss poor percentage to count on. I've no reason to think of most 5*s as technically better then others in their class, in fact I'd suspect it's usually just the opposite where they've been succeeding with superior athleticism and have further to go on the finer points. STOMP
Perhaps, but guys like Rolls, Tyner, Taj, Colt and DAT are five star instant impact for a reason! We get these guys on offense and from all climate areas! If this is this case then explain why we are not getting it done on the D side of the ball except in the secondary area? Neal can flat out recruit we know that, and he even isn't grabbing 5's more like 4's. TOP TALENT D isn't buying into our scheme or D coaches! Can't be the facilities or the fans! There is a defensive recruiting problem here, to many years have gone by with top D talent going elsewhere and for a team ranked as high as Oregon for this long it's very hard to spin that reality any other way! Top talent will come here for the offense but not the defense is that what your implying? If yes then you'll have to agree our D needs to be revamped to improve when our offense does begin to struggle. Say post Mariota next year? Bend and wait for a break must go away!
Royce & Taj weren't rated 5*s, so they're completely irrelevant to this conversation. Tyner was hardly instant impact. Colt backed up a 3* All Pac 10 stud. So fresh the 1,000,001st time. Is there any thread or conversation you won't attempt to derail with that OCD crap? STOMP
"Lastly this nonsense about 5*s being ready to start." Great Point! Instant impact 5 star freshman on D this year..... DE Myles Garrett for A&M, CB Adoree Jackson for USC, Safety Quin Blanding UVA, Malik McDowell for Michigan St., Andrew Brown DT for UVA, to name a few! They all start and are major difference makers for their teams. How many of these guys did the Ducks have a shot at last year? Guys like these just aren't coming here on defense and I've got to think Oregon is a hell of a lot more fun than A&M and freezing ass cold MSU or awful football UVA! Gee why wouldn't these guys want to come to Autzen, START and make a D as good as our yearly national championship level offense???? I suppose there's many answers you'll attempt, but more and more it just seems that top D players don't want to come here and be misused for a 103rd ranked D coordinator! Truth Hurts! The good news is Helfrich will figure this out soon and change will happen! In Uncle Phil we trust!
Royce by every person with a brain was a 5* His high school #'s were legendary, do a little homework will ya? 24/7 whiffed by allowing Mixon to be 5 star over him and the Army All American Game showed why! That's a fact! Taj was a 5 till he got hurt so that's not true either, cause 24/7 demotes for injury. BTW- Canton was a 5 star last year till he got hurt too! "The 6-7, 290-pound Kaumatule is a four-star prospect who at one time was considered the No. 1 prospect by 247Sports. He chose the Ducks over Oklahoma, Stanford, USC, Texas Tech, UCLA, Ole Miss, Utah and Wisconsin." By: USA Today High School Sports Colt still played as a true freshman with a coach who underused TE's like no ones business especially with Colts YAC yards! DAT in my eyes was better as a freshman than a junior..... He was used correctly then...... Not as an undersized featured back..... Take that as you will.....
Telling someone they have OCD is a personal attack unless you're a DR. are you? Did I miss being your patient? If not, you should be warned by your little buddy and understand that crossing that line goes against the community standards you love to hide behind whenever convenient! Thanks for being a respectful poster here on S2! I'm sure the board would thank you as well!
Take this shit to the Blazer board where it belongs. You have been nothing but a problem child since you joined.
Enough with conversation with those that think 3 stars are as good as 5 stars. If you wish tohaveconversation about a players highlights ir tape vs there current ranking and similarly ranked recruits fine. Pointing out past 3 star sucesses don't really count because the majority do not end up that way. On to our current targets. We're currently at 16 and are expected to take between 5 and 8 more, probably closer to 5 more. Manu, Uluave, Merritt, Octavious, and Tevis are most likely.
