Alright all ya Kobe fans... I love his game, I love what he's done, he's a phenomenal player.... But I have a few questions that might seem common knowledge to ya'll, but I don't care I'm asking them anyway:-How long was Kobe's contract that he signed a year or two ago for? Was it 5 years?-Do you think he'll remain a Laker for life?-Why do you suppose he shut down almost completely in last years Playoffs against the Suns, and why would Phil Jackson let hime get away with it? -The exact reason for his number change? And if they retire his number after he's done playing, which will it be, 8 or 24?I think overall Kobe's got another 8-10 years left to play... And if he doesn't get another major supporting piece like a KG or something, he'll not be winning a another Championship on the Lakers.

1- Already answered.2- Jerry buss has said that kobe's like a son to him. Kobe's not going anywhere. After his contracts end, they'll sign him to another one to finish his career. Kobe has said he's a laker for life.3- Shut down? In 2nd half of game 7? or the whole series? The whole series, kobe executed the gameplan perfectly. The gameplan came to a dead end when the team started falling apart. Kwame got charged with sexual assault, smush disappeared and they countered lamar's dominance. Game 7 is just a mix of the gameplan again and kobe being fustrated. All of his teamates hadn't shown up. Kobe tried to keep them in the game with his scoring. When they understood kobe ball wasn't going to win them anything they switched to team ball. Kobe was probably pissed at his teamates and so he didnt' put 100% in. But, kobe was the only one playing defense in game 7.4- Something about it being the 2nd half of his career. Also, he said he'd dominate every momement which could point at it because there are 24 hours in a day . He always wanted the number but couldn't have it as a rookie.

The number change could be for a number of reasons. Kobe's a very symbolic guy. He likes everything he does and has to symbolize something deeper. He cut his fro to symbolize a new era in his career, same with the number.Another reason could be just for sales. His representatives might have told him how much money he could make for basically doing nothing, and he'd be an idiot not to do it.My opinion is that it's a little bit of both. He's been looking for something to symbolize the pro-Shaq era in Lakerland, and this is as good a way as any. Plus he'll make millions more.
About the number change... he wore #24 in high school, and said that he wanted to wear it all along (as Melo said) but it was taken when he first came to the Lakers. Now it symbolized a "fresh start" for him in the second half of his career.People have also noted that 24 is one more than 23, and this could be Kobe's subliminal way of saying he's better than MJ... just something interesting I read in a few articles. Whether or not it is true is another story, but it wouldn't surprise me considering how competitive Kobe is...
Nice... I'm startin' to really dig the new #24... I liked 8 a lot too though, because it was so different, and not many people have used it, especially not all-stars...
Yeah, his first choice of numbers was 33, he wore that in high school (except freshman year) and that's what his dad wore. His second was 8 because his favorite Italian league player other than his dad (Mike D'antoni) wore it and it was also his number at the ABCD camp added up (143). His 3rd is 24 because he wants to symbolize how many hours a day he's gonna be working (corny, yes) and how he wants to dominate every moment.

Arenas wears 0 because that's how many minutes skeptics thought he would play.

There's a 24-second shot clock and Kobe has 24 seconds to score. I don't remember his exact words. I believe he said that to Charles, EJ, & Kenny after losing to the Suns in the Playoffs.</span>
