Quirky stat- Mark Reynolds appeared in 130 games, lead all MLB 1b in assists with 127- That's nine more assists than the next 1b, Adrian Gonzalez. (158 G) But Reynolds was near the bottom in Put-Outs and Total Chances. It's weird how he can have more assists (in less games) than the rest. lol
I don't get it, I have a 86 or 87 Game, when Tommy John threw a no hitter. All and each 27 outs, were made at 1st base, giving Donnie BB, all recorded Outs. While the INF's got the Assists, like its supposed to be. John walked one or two batters, which Kept a Perfect game just right out of reach, by a fingernail.... Thus, I don't get Reynold stat situation at all. 1st baseman almost always record more Put Outs, than Assists, wish someone could explain this to me.... Nice work blg...!
Weird is an understatement, and I bet no other 1st basemen have ever had these kind of upside reversed stats...!
______________________________________________ Reynolds did NOT have more assists than put-outs- I was only surprised at the number of assists he had and him LEADING all MLB 1b in assists. Yeah, it"s true about 1b getting alot of POs- but also, assists by 1bmen is regarded as a good true indication of him having good range and fielding his position well - here we have a guy who lead in assists, ...yet was understandably near the bottom in POs and Total Chances probably due to his fewer number of games than most "regular" 1B. So where the heck did those assist come from? It's just a flukey thing where he just happened to get a lot of ground balls requiring a throw to a base.
