Oh no, you infer in error, I hate to tell people what to do. I asked the lady to please stop shooting
just as I would ask you. It does seem like a reasonable request since it is very unpleasant for the dog.

But then there is this little ordinance in our City just as there is in most.

    9.28.020 Discharge of weapons

Except at firing ranges approved by the chief of police, no person other than a peace officer
shall fire or discharge a gun, including spring or air-actuated pellet guns, air guns or BB guns, or
other weapon which propels a projectile by use of
    gunpowder or
    other explosive, jet or rocket
    propulsion.

Then we also have CC & Rs that also prohibit such activity.
So I would have no intent to inhibit your rights, no way, just a simple please comply like a good neighbor.

They could use it to transplant the hair from the back of my neck. Don't think my neighbor was Bosley from the infomercials though.

I was going to say your laws sound ridiculous until you mentioned the HOA rules. I'm good with them. The Harley asshole I mentioned was clearly in violation, I just give people a friendly death threat before going Narc on them.

So you think it should be illegal to shoot a paintball gun in your own back yard? Paintball gun shoots a projectile via air. How about a nerf gun? That's spring actuated. Do you think someone should be arrested for shooting a rubber dart in their own back yard? Those inconsiderate bastards! Arrest them all!

I'm seeing a lot of people say that this never used to happen. Well, uh, times change. It wasn't often that you found a kid messing with what appeared to be a real gun. Guns weren't as idolized back then, nor were kids shown the incorrect and misleading image of guns that today's entertainment provides.

I know the officer was by no means correct in the situation, and it cost the life of an innocent 12 year old, but the kid should have known not to take off the orange tip, much less proceed to take said gun to a public area. It's not only the law enforcement that needs to be retrained, but a lot of kids don't know shit about guns or their effects (blame what you'd like), whether it be visually, physically, or mentally.

One thing I'm tired of reading is all the blame on the officer. He could have done it differently, but he was thinking about the safety of others. I'm not trying to justify the death of a 12 year old, but it should be understood that an officer's job is never easy.

    Neither side is innocent.

What? They used to sell guns that looked real in toys r us. I had one. Boys have been playing army for thousands of years. My dad and all the boys in his neighborhood would put on World War Two surplus gear and play war. This is not new or unique.

What IS new and unique is the fear culture that is being promoted on this country. The fear of guns that has someone calling the police and the fear of the police to show up and shoot a kid.

You take large leaps there Nate. Sort of inferring wildly. I don't think a nerf gun is included with BB guns in the ordinance. Do you?

Here in Beautiful Central Oregon open carry is as common as mittens in winter. Nobody, including the cops, has a problem with it.

Based on what you pasted, it would fall under that ordinance. It specifically mentioned spring actuated. How about a paintball gun? Do you think it's ok to shoot a paintball gun on your property?

It looks to me like the ordinance is talking about BB guns and Pellet guns. I don't imagine nerf guns or paint guns existed when it was written. So what do you think it would work out to be?

Now the bottom line is if your shooting what ever the fuck it is and it is disturbing your neighbors
and they ask you, please refrain from shooting because you are scaring the hell out their dog or Aunt Minny, would you be a gentleman and decent neighbor?

Or are you going to stick to your guns and shoot where ever you like unless it is prohibited by law? That would be an asshole.

I think it should be illegal to have an air soft gun in avatars.

If you live under the terms of an HOA, The Constitution and The Bill of Rights really don't apply to you in your home as you've voluntarily waived them in writing.

Marshmallow guns? Ping Pong balls? Kites? Baseballs and bats? Frisbees?

Holding your fingers so they look like a gun? Drawing a picture of a gun?

    Speaking the word "gun"?
