I had the displeasure of watching the Sixers @ Heat game on monday, and I had t turn it off.Allen Iverson once again goes all-out on the court. Stealing, getting back on D, scoring (what comes natrually for him), and playing all 48 minutes. And guess what? the Sixers still lose, and now they're 5-8 and have dropped six of seven. It is beyond annoying and frustrating to see one of the best greatest guards of all time lose on such a consistent basis, it is now so mentally taxing for me to watch that I have to look away as if it's a Feed The Children Commercial. This thread isn't meant to be a pity party for A.I., but don't you think it's time for this whole Philly thing to end? Wouldn't it be better to see A.I. win than see him struggling to make the playoffs and then get beaten 4-1 by Detroit?
Iverson is a great player, and will go down as a legend, he always plays as hard as he can and leaves it all out. Sadly he has no team around him, and Iguodala has still yet to develop into what he can truly be. Also its unlucky that AI had to go against DWade another all out player
Yeah I have always said that it would be best for both Allen Iverson and the Sixers organization to trade Iverson and re-build. This team needs to re-build with a youth movement.- Do whatever you can to get Webber out (it's obviously a very difficult task with his contract, but they should still work their asses off to do it).- Deal Iverson to a team for a couple young players and a pick or two.- Build around Iguodala, Carney, the young guys you get in the AI deal, and through the draft. This would most likely get Iverson a chance to win, it would get the negativity of Webber out of town (again, if they can even do it), allow Iguodala to flourish offensively without excuses, and for the franchise to start fresh.I feel bad for both Allen Iverson and Kevin Garnett. They are two GREAT players (the word "great," should not be taken lightly with these two) and they have given everything to their organizations. Neither one of their organizations have done much to help them win. They deserve a chance to win.
Allen Iverson has the most heart in NBA history, I also watched that Heat game. It was awesome seeing Iverson drive at Mourning every ttime, He has no fear. I would love to see him win an NBA title, There's nothing he didn't do for the Sixers organization. He is ranked 2nd ALL TIME for the highest ppg totals for the playoffs, He is ranked 3rd ALL TIME for points per game.
The only thing is, AI is so hard to trade away. Nobody knows when he is going to breakdown. He has played with so many injuries throughout the years, its inevitable that he goes out for some period of time with the style of play he plays. Also, he is hard to play with and build around. He needs a good amount of shots to be effective, is a small gaurd, and is combo guard as well. Its going to be a hard to find that perfect situation for him. But yeah, I'd love to see him go, it'd at least make the NBA more intersting since its been quite boring as of late.
AI doesn't even want to leave - he loves Philly that much, but it IS better for both sides like CB said. Iverson and Garnett need to get out of their situations asap - it isn't fair for those two all stars to suffer through what they have to go through. It must be blood boiling just to watch teams constatntly beat you over and over again and their's absolutely nothing you can do but play your best and it still doesn't get the job done. I do think KG and AI will eventually get their rings when they do get traded - hopefully in time where its not like a Gary Payton situation where Gary wasn't in his prime and didn't contribute like he would have wished too.
It pains me as a Sixer fan to watch him give 150% every night, and still lose 45+ games a year. He has put up MVP numbers the past two years (and he will this year as well), and what does he have to show for it? A combined regular season record of 81-83 over the past two seasons (86-92 if you include this season), and a five-game playoff loss to Detroit two years ago. Pitiful...The organization had the opportunity to trade AI over the summer, but they apparently didn't like the idea of seeing AI in Celtic green and playing him four times a year. Then they said they weren't trading him because Snider and Comcast might be selling the team... and that didn't happen. It saddens me to say this, but it is time for the Iverson era in Philly to end, if not for the sake of the franchise then at least for AI's sake. He has done everything he possibly could for this organization, and they have not given him one good supporting cast to work with (nope, not even in 2001... that was more Larry Brown's coaching than a talented roster)... so the only way to correct that mistake is giving him his opportunity to win elsewhere since they obviously cannot make a major move to bring in help. Although if I were Billy King I would make a BIG run at Garnett (possibly give up Webber, and pick and a younger player... or orchestrate a three or four team trade to land KG), but the chances of that happening are remote.I'd like to see AI in Denver or in a (sadly) Clippers uniform... hell, Phoenix would be a great fit for him because of the up-tempo offense, but that wouldn't work out. Trade him to Minnesota to team up with KG... just do something that will benefit the franchise and give Iverson that chance to win a ring that he has already earned.
This basically like KG.
QUOTE

just do something that will benefit the franchise and give Iverson that chance to win a ring that he has already earned.
Already earned? For sticking it out with a bad team. Man, going by that notion, some other players have "already earned" one as well.
What is with people now days? If your a legend that has not won a title and your a struggling team...you should automaticly be traded so you can get the title that you've 'earned'. Give me a break.

What I meant was that he deserves better than what the Philadelphia front office has given him to work with... especially after everything he has done. He has earned the chance to contend for a ring (in my mind), and its time for the Sixers to trade him... not just because he would be better off elsewhere, but because it's time for the Sixers to start rebuilding. Give Iguodala the chance to show if he can be THE man on a team, and go from there. They obviously can't assemble a decent roster around Iverson at this point in time, so for the sake of the franchise's future and for Iverson's sake, just trade the man.

Keep him in Philly. They should've done what they did in 01, fill defensive players around him and get a real coach.

There's an off chance. Throw in a couple 1sts for good measure. Then you've got 2 superstars without a ring.
His team sucks badly. Webber takes too many jump shots, and is a bit of a ball hog. He's alot slower than he used to be too. Iggy isnt that consistent offensively. And after that - look around, and you won't find any other solid players besides maybe Dalembert, who does nothing offensively, and makes some stupid defensive decisions.I feel for AI.

Man, this guy has so much heart, you cant help but like him. I remember a couple years ago when he wouldnt go to practice and that kind of stuff and he would complain to the media about it, and I would look down upon him as somebody I didnt respect. My views on him have changed 100 percent. I would love to see him win a ring but he needs to get out of Philly if he ever wants to achieve that..

The Sixers have had some alright teams but over the last 10 years the talent level has been really poor. I love Allen Iverson but I don't think he deserves a title...winning a title is so big and so special...saying now that some players based on how good they are have 'earned' a title is ridiculous.

Earned, deserves, it's all semantics in the end. All I'm saying is that over the last eleven years, the management has had an opprotunity to really make Philly a powerhouse, and they have failed in that regard. How does A.I. not deserve a title? Oh and btw, why do you post on my topics if they're so average?
