3.0 mil annually to 1.5 suggests otherwise. I don't understand it from Nebraskas in but now Riley has resources. We can see just how good he really can be. He has flirted with big name programs before. Other than the San Diego Chargers, Alabama, SC etc.
I would also challenge those that states that its' the end of the world and that OSU can't do any better than Riley. All I have to say is go back to 98-99, the hire of Erickson elevated the program. And I think someone can do it again. Above the heights of Riley
Considering our top 10 basketball recruiting class and the fact we have had two baseball national championships in the past decade, not likely
Good move by both parties. Riley can see if his brand of coaching works in a program with a bigger budget/stronger reputation, OSU finally gets out from under the Mike Riley anchor. They held onto him far too long. Hopefully OSU doesn't do what it did after Ralph Miller retired, and just get shitty coach after shitty coach after shitt....ah, who am I kidding, thats exactly what they'll do.
There are lots of good options out there at least. Lots of young up and comers which is what osu needs. If they want established I guess they could call Coker or Brady Hoke.
I'm thrilled that this happened! The game has passed Riley by. We should look at hiring a young head coach like the ones at USU or EWU.
Why? Nebraska a better job than OSU? Assumed. Pac12 a much stronger conference than the B1G? Also understood. Job security and standard of living in Corvallis better than in Lincoln? Obviously. Nebraska job better than OSU job, but not by much? Reasonable conclusion.
Ralph Miller retired 25 years ago. They went through a lot of shitty coaches before they finally got a potentially good one. Of the coaches since Ralph retired, guess how many had winning %'s above .500? None. It was 25 years of shitty coaches and not caring about the basketball program. The first time in 25 years they might actually have a coach who isn't crap. That was my point.
Sure, but you said they probably would hire shitty coach after shitty coach like they always do. Tinkle is an up and coming coach who just got a top 10 recruiting class. Osu was incredibly smart to snatch him up while his kid was a top recruit. If they just made the best hire for basketball of the last 25 years, I'd assume they might just have there heads in the right place now. I'm betting they make a good hire for football and do a lit of due diligence.
Meh..lets pass on the better job..that is too abstract. The Pac 12 is stronger THIS year, with that said, the Beavers and their facilities have the worst program in the Pac 12, and to say the fans for the most part are fickle would be an understatement. I have been around here from the days of free admission at half time and a high water mark of three thousand in the stands, while Nebraska has been sold out for years and is expanding to allow an attendance of 90,000. Dunno, but that sounds like a big time program to me. I have to work in Corvallis and cant wait to escape these self important, myopic twats and their tainted liberal leanings that strangle anything resembling growth in the private sector. Better lifestyle? Only if you are connected to the school or government..otherwise you will be relegated to service jobs and living in south town at best. http://www.si.com/football/2013/08/22/nebraska-stadium-addition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Stadium,_Lincoln http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebraska_Cornhuskers_football http://www.usctrojans.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/120714aaa.html Better program? Bud...this is the big times of collage football. And look at the bright side, the Beavers can watch Mike in the post season.
