Exactly. This is the guy who should get the focus. 4 goals in 24 games. Awful. Zucc 4 goals and 10 points in 23 games. Awful. We needed 25 +, if not 30 + from Kreider. And 17-20 from Zucc, and more importantly 50 + points, and he is on pace for 35.
Like I said, you are not a fan and that is cool. He is clearly worth that much, not even worth a discussion really, but you aren't a fan, so be it.
I don't know what they will do. I wouldn't give Staal 5 mill per, let alone close to 6 mill per, but that is me.
Girardi is signed so why the fuck do we keep talking him him? The question is Staal and I wouldn't bring him back either. Depending on where this team is at the deadline he's a guy I would trade.
I am with you on Staal...and we talk about Girardi because he is the sc's most hated player on the team...LOL.
LOL..that was funny Mess. But seriously that contract is going to be a problem sooner than later, there's no sweeping aside.
You are awesome with Girardi...like a dog with a bone...irrational as the guy gets it done and plays 25 mpg...but a dog with a bone...I will give you that much man.
The issue I think is you are just off on how you value players in the NHL, sports in general really, these days. As a UFA Girardi would get 5.5 no doubt man. Brooks Orpik...3 years older than Girardi...got 5.5 per for just as long as Girardi (maybe 1 less year). Girardi is much better than Orpik. Girardi is 3 years younger than Orpik. Yet somehow Orpik got the same amount per for 5 years. Enough said bro. I am just not sure you fully understand how it works when players become UFA's or are in their walk year...they get paid big...that is sports. And when you are just 30 like Girardi was, you get real big money as a UFA. He could have gotten 6 easy if he went to the open market. The Orpik deal proves that for sure.
And BTW...while I don't love Staal and no way would I re-sign him, that is also why he will get 6 per if he wants it. And he is only 27...he gets that for sure if he wants to play for the most money. Cally got a 5.8 mill cap hit...he was a UFA...how it works.
I guess players get paid right at the peak of things. Just watching him you truly think he looks 5.5 worth?
100 % yes. I base it on how I know things work in sports, and Girardi gets more than that as a UFA. It is also another reason I let Staal walk, I don't need Girardi at 5.5 AND Staal at 5.8 or 6. I wanted to keep one, and I think we kept the better one Girardi...and for less than Staal will sign for I think. Would you pay Brooks Orpik, 3 years older than Girardi, 5.5 per? You would say no...but guess what the Caps said yes. Other teams would have as well. Younger and better Girardi would have gotten more if he went to the open market. How it works man.
And one last comment, I know the last two years for Girardi will be declined play and not worth 5.5 per, but again that is how sports work. I expect him to be like a # 4 dman at that point. Is what it is...sports man.
CK has been disappointing but this could be considered a sophomore slump as it is only his second full season and he is 5th on the team in scoring. Personally I'd put him on the same line as Hayes to see if the college connection could be reestablished. The same could be said for Zuccarello as this is also his second full season but he'll be hard pressed to even approach last year's numbers. I don't think you could justify resigning him at this point with some of the younger upcoming talent. While CK and Zucc are rightfully criticized I'm puzzled as to why Hagelin escapes the same wrath. This is his 4th full season and he's been just as brutal which is unacceptable for a one dimensional speedster also in a contract year. I see Carl taking too many shifts off coasting as he has in previous years which is a shame because his speed can be a difference maker and is his only asset. No surprise that the two quick second period Redwing goals capitalized on the little fella that can't Matt Hunwick's inability to knock a player off the puck. Speed is irrelevant if an opponent can skate right through you. Allen or McIlrath would be a huge upgrade to the 3rd defensive unit, Hunwick is what he is, a fill-in stopgap when the injury bug bites. I don't get the hate toward Girardi, he's missed 3 games in the past 7 seasons, even played last postseason with a broken finger and is the only dman that takes the body. I have no idea why AV played Talbot tonight after 5 days off but Hank could have handled both games especially with another long layoff. Still early and a few games in hand but 10th place in the Eastern is making this upcoming road trip important, can't keep digging deeper have to start digging out.
