Quite a bit to talk about, here.

Josh Samman's head-kick KO of Eddie Gordon--I think even Samman couldn't believe it. Great stuff. I don't really know who either of these guys are, apparently Gordon and Anderson won some obscure season of TUF, but good on Samman for the highlight reel win. Anderson fought a gamer in Jones but grinded it out. Jones did well for himself on short notice.

Cisco Rivera seemed on his way to beating Faber. Unfortunate turn of events.

I walked the dog during Ferguson/Trujillo.

Heavyweights = explosive fights, usually. No different tonight. Duffee and Hamilton threw caution to the wind and Duffee came out on top. I guess trimming down didn't affect his punching power. Fight could've gone either way with the way they were swinging. Browne used his length to keep Schaub at the end of his punches and overall looked like the more composed fighter. Schaub has a bit of a suspect chin at this point and his record is getting sort of shit so I would imagine he's on thin ice.

I expected Pettis/Melendez to be the fight of the night. I guess not. Melendez tried to wear on Pettis who is just one slick motherfucker. Looked a little rusty in the first round but in the second showed that when he goes for a submission he is Mr. Perfect. I have no idea how he lost to Clay Guida. Hopefully he can stay healthy and give us another fight in four or five months. I don't know where Melendez goes from here. There are still interesting fights for him in the division but he's not getting another title shot for a long while I presume.

Re: UFC 181: Hendricks vs. Lawler II (Dec/6)

Hendricks/Lawler 2, at least for me, was not a fun fight to watch. Lawler was listless from the end of the first to the mid point of the fourth, attempting little offense in a very reactionary mode. Hendricks threw excellent combos in the second and third and then resorted to stalling tactics once his gas tank started to dry out, which seems to be a trend for him. Joe Rogan really shouldn't be scoring fights when even he admits that he isn't able to pay full attention to what is going on with his commentary duties. I'm not sure how he could've scored the first round for Hendricks when Lawler mounted all of the offense only to give up a takedown and some smothering top control for the final minute or so.

No post-fight interview for Hendricks? Did he storm out? His last three fights have all been close decisions and he really only has himself to blame. He doesn't finish strong. He coasts. Or he gets tired. Maybe both. Time for him to sort that out.

Feel pretty good for Lawler. That's a long career arc he's had. I imagine he's going to fight better against MacDonald than he did tonight. Should be fun to watch. Nostalgic to see Miletich & Co. so pumped.

Would anyone have guessed that the post-GSP era would have a WW champion who's been in the UFC even longer?

All three judges gave 1-4-5 to Lawler.

Glenn Trowbridge gave round 2 to Lawler as well.

Trowbridge is a boxing and MMA judge. A very active one at that. Other split decisions he's made: St. Pierre over Hendricks, MacDonald over Lawler, Mein over Woodley

As always, the UG is broken. That site can't handle post-event traffic worth a damn.

Hendricks was 5/17 on his takedowns but 100/100 at keeping his head shoved into Lawler's crotch.

Hendricks was asked why he went to wrestling in the late rounds when he was clearly winning the striking battle. Great question, he says, then skirts it.

Amber with the question of the night: This is your first loss by submission--what's that like?

    Melendez: Sucks.

The event drew 9,600 fans at Mandalay Bay. Vegas' reputation as the fight capital is a little questionable at this point.

DFW is open to the Hendricks/Lawler rubber match. I think most people would be inclined to see them each fight new opponents next. MacDonald has been promised the title shot but he's lost to Lawler recently.

Pretty solid main card. Sucks I missed Faber's fight but I think all of the main card fights were good enough to watch. Love it when most end with finishes and now with the judges.
Hopefully they don't throw Duffee up against top ten HW talents just yet. Let this guy develop a bit. I think he can be a top 5-7 fighter down the road.
Pettis may hold onto that title for a while, he's quite the complete fighter and knows how to avoid damage
Loved seing Lawler hold the belt. Dude like that deserves to win the title IMO.
Schaub looks like he's been training with Big Country and by train, I main eating at the same buffet's. This felt and looked like a bounce back fight for Browne and not a legit challenge for him.

Kinda meh about CM Punk signing with the UFC. Other than being a brand name he offers little to know excitement. Should be interesting to see him be a co-main event a fight card with some dude who's 3-2 or some mediocre record like that.

Loser Ashley Evans-Smith has failed her post-fight drug test for this event. The test shows diuretics.

Smith is being given an opportunity to assemble her supplements and such to present to the NSAC at a hearing. Smith denies any wrongdoing or even awareness of this test result.
