I don't think Aldridge like him either

I'm going with this one: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lh74bes

Players going out only have 1 year left on their current deals. Hollins doesn't care for Brook and he wants him gone.

    G - Lillard, Blake
    G - Mathews, McCollum, Barton
    F - Batum, Crabbe
    F - Aldridge, Kaman
    C - B. Lopez, R. Lopez, Leonard

Kaman alone wouldn't be enough to match salary, but Kaman/Meyers/TRob just gets there. Now, I'm told (by Mags) that Olshey wouldn't even consider Meyers/TRob for Hawes, so this deal would probably be completely out of the question too. But it seems like it could actually be a decent swap for both sides.

Any move now that compromises future cap flexibility clearly means we are in win NOW mode. In which case, you go for broke. If we get Brook (and possibly KG) from NJN, I think we should also try to land Kevin Martin from MIN. He'd give us the scorer off the bench we need. His contract isn't too bad, but he's 31 and has 2+ years left. That's why I haven't mentioned him before. That's also why MIN would be glad to let him go for nothing but expirings and/or future picks (they are under the cap, aren't they?). Maybe even work a 3-way deal with MIN and NJN to take advantage of their (assumed) cap space.

Martin is injured now (wrist surgery), but should be back in mid-January. He averaged 14.0 ppg and shot lights out for OKC two seasons ago coming off the bench and was off to a great start in MIN last year, until they fell out of contention and turned to crap. He's no longer a 1st or 2nd option guy, or even a starter, but I bet he could still light it up off the bench for 20 - 24 mpg.

Or, we could do nothing. I actually like the team we have now, but just pointing out that if you decide to give up future cap flexibility and try to win now, you need to go all in. If not Martin, mine the other lottery bound teams for a veteran scorer off the bench even if it means taking on a guy with 2 - 3 years left on his current deal.

Agreed. In my mind, we absolutely should be in win now mode. I would fully support any move intended to pursue a title this year.

Sorry, I was just playing around on the trade machine. I actually tried to trade all of our starters for their starters but they are so far over the cap and the salaries are too far apart to make it happen. They are really fucked.

I don't think we need to do any trades like these that barely move the needle, and in which direction is questionable as well.

I'd like to think that what we've been building on/to would encourage some decent bench solutions to want to join the team next season. I really dont want to mess with the starters and Kaman - but even then there are question marks around who will stick around and resign of their free will etc. Cross that bridge when we come to it, no sense blowing anything up now.

How does kaman and the last guys on the bench equal blowing it up?

And for that matter, how does trading for Brook Lopez equate to "barely moving the needle"?

I don't think acquiring Brook makes any sense. Dude is an injury waiting to happen. CONSTANTLY. I'd be much more interested in Joe Johnson off the bench. Though, he is expensive.

I think Rolo compliments Aldridge in the starting lineup more than his brother would. I have no interest in any of the three guys who make up the most expensive trio in the league. This would be true any year but especially this year as we draw closer to the most important offseason in several years.

What about Kevin Martin off the bench? He's also injury prone, but not nearly as bad as Brook. He played 68 games last year and 77 the year before. His contract is MUCH more reasonable than Joe Johnson's and we wouldn't really have to give up anything to get him. I think he could back up both Nic and Wesley and is a proven scorer with 3-point range. He doesn't fit Minny's rebuilding plans and I'm sure they'd like to dump his salary.

This is more of an Olshey style incremental upgrade then blow it up kind of move - which I prefer for chemistry and continuity. I'm just not sure Olshey would consider taking on Kevin Martin's contract (which isn't really all that bad) worth sacrificing next summer's cap flexibility.

I love the idea of the Lopez twins but the fact is, Brolo is having Yao Ming type of chronic injury woes. I hate to lose Kaman this season and with the bigs we have, that's not a position we really need help in. The biggest problem with Rolo playing with his bro is the salary mismatch. Brolo makes more than we're paying Kaman and Rolo combined.

problem is all the guys they want to move have ridiculous salaries and are either injury prone and not worth it or aging and not worth their huge pay, let the Ruski pay these guys and have the team suck

LA for Brook! Brook has been injured a lot, but who knows if that will continue or if it's just a rough patch? At least he is actually worth the max when he does play. LaMarcus is the most over-rated player in the league.

If nothing else, LA is much more durable than Brook. You can't be worth the max if you don't play.
