Could the Redsox be pulling off a fast one? I still wonder........ From another thread: Re: Are the Yankees going to sign Anyone? from POST # 12 It's been reported that Lester has told the Giants that he is not going to simply take the highest bid, that opens the door wide for Boston. Before - if - he signs with Boston, I would like to know what is preventing teams and one of their players from conspiring/colluding or agreeing (wink wink) to have the player dealt away during his walk year FOR VALUE (of course), and returning to his former team as a free agent at or below market prices? I am not a conspiracy theorist, but the Redsox did receive Cespedes who is both a good player AND a good trading chip from Oakland in exchange for Lester--- if Lester returns to Boston for the same or less money than was offered by another team(s) - doesn't it smell bad.....just a little bit? Am I missing something?
I pray he goes to the Cubs. But for the sake of humanity could you decide quick so things can start to move along. He has held everyone captive for days now.
Speaking for myself I could care lees where Lester ends up but I'd think it will be to the Cubs. Looks like the Tigers may be backpedaling on Scherzer and trying to lock him up no doubt prompted by the nice trades and acquisitions made by the White Sox and Indians. Saw Girardi who appeared upbeat while commenting that A-hole looked good in his work outs and baseball regimens to get back into shape. I hope the Yankees can find a way to keep A-hole off of the team legally.
_________________ Actually, I do care a bit. He's a terrific pitcher- a difference maker I would rather see he him out of the A.L. East, or out of the A.L.
I still think he'll end up with the Cubs but humor me, show me where it says that the Giants are definitely out of it.
__________________________ Rick, I don't know if you've seen a previous post by me regarding Lester possibly returning to the Redsox. I honestly think it's possible...please read. Before - if - he signs with Boston, I would like to know what is preventing teams and one of their players from conspiring/colluding or agreeing (wink wink) to have the player dealt away during his walk year FOR VALUE (of course), and returning to his former team as a free agent at or below market prices? Am I missing something? Especially a team (Redsox) which is having a bad year and in all likelihood will not be making the playoffs. What have they got to lose? They get their star player back during the off season and STILL reap the benefits of trading him in the first place which also improves the team further?
___________________________ I guess we'll find out if Lester respects and trusts Theo more than he likes playing for Boston.
I don't see any collusion, at all. A Player is free enough to say where he would prefer to play. Contract to the highest bidder, does not automatically apply. Remember when Robin Yount became a FA? He made it NO secret, he preferred to retire with his original Team, and Fans. He took a loss of quit a few Millions to play in Milwaukee, when Mucho better offers were thrown His way to leave Ol' Milwaukee. What were seeing is a hold up, over speculation, due to a lack of News Coverage, pure an simple, the word is not out, and inquiring minds are going nuts.
