...most of those other teams are not in the contractual conundrum that the Yanx are in. ...but I'm sure they are not done yet. Besides, of the players already signed/traded, The Yanx were either not interested in or not able or willing to give up the players/prospects.
I'd like to see the Yanx take a look at a few of these Rule 5 Prospects.....Johan Santana was picked up as a Rule 5, as well as several others, (tho' I need to take a deeper look at past Rule 5 Prospects).... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...letter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=mlb
___________________________ ? As far as the A.L. East is concerned, Toronto has added players but they need pitching help. Baltimore has lost Markakis and Cruz. Boston still needs pitching. Tampa Bay has alot of ground to make up. I'm sure the Yanks will do SOMETHING.
If we go back to the thread where we talked about problem contracts that's the reality. We can be in for 2-3 years of bullshit until Tex, CC and Arod are off the books.
My guess is Lester stays with the Red Sox and Scherzer stays with the Tigers and Yankees are screwed. Sorry right now I am pissed and frustrated.
You don't have to be sorry lol. I just don't think the Yankees want to get themselves into any long term big money contracts at the moment.
_____________________________ I think your guess is a good guess. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if at least one of them goes back to his 2014 opening day team.
You may be right Jill, maybe the Yankees are just going into next year thinking, "If Beltran, CC & Tanaka can all have full healthy seasons & Tex can bounce back to a 25-30 HR guy with 90+ RBI & McCann & Ellsbury can start earning there fat contracts that maybe we can win 90-95 games". Its still a little early yet, we'll see.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/jon-lester-leaning-against-signing-with-giants.html Rick's Giants are out. Sux or Cubs.
Rick, flip a coin - it could be leaning towards Boston. It's been reported that Lester has told the Giants that he is not going to simply take the highest bid, that opens the door wide for Boston. Before - if - he signs with Boston, I would like to know what is preventing teams and one of their players from conspiring/colluding or agreeing (wink wink) to have the player dealt away during his walk year FOR VALUE (of course), and returning to his former team as a free agent at or below market prices? I am not a conspiracy theorist, but the Redsox did receive Cespedes who is both a good player AND a good trading chip from Oakland in exchange for Lester--- if Lester returns to Boston for the same or less money than was offered by another team(s) - doesn't it smell bad.....just a little bit? Am I missing something here?
Yeah I really don't want to see him going back to the Sox. And like I've said, I would have loved to have seen the combo of Bumgarner & Lester along with a healthy Cain but my feeling all along was the Cubs & between the two I'd still like to see those lovable losers get him.
Refresh the link to get the updates.... 9:10pm: The Dodgers aren’t in on Lester, Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times tweets. It indeed seems that the Cubs and Red Sox are the two finalists for Lester’s services. 8:36pm: Lester is still finalizing his choice between the Cubs and Red Sox, Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets. 8:21pm: The Giants were called by Lester earlier tonight to inform them that he was signing elsewhere, assistant GM Bobby Evans told reporters (including Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group). As Evans put it, “We did not receive a rose.” 7:36pm: CSN Chicago’s David Kaplan hears from “two very good MLB sources” who believe the Cubs are the leading contenders to sign Lester. An executive connected to at least one of the teams in the hunt, however, tells Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times (Twitter link) that he thinks Lester is leaning towards San Francisco.
Deal w/ Cubs finalized... 6 years for $155M.. 7th year bringing it to $170M... http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=12008073
