Out of his fkng mind. Max doesn't have the longer track record, to pay him a dime above $20 Million

...if the Yanx are not involved with the Max Scherzer sweepstakes, I think he will get something similar to Lester's deal.

...if the Yanx do indeed land Scherzer, you can add $25 Mil to that deal.

I love Scherzer and want him to be a Yankee but not for 200 mil.

I think Scherzer will end up with a contract in the $180 million range. If a team goes $200+ million they're just plain stupid since they would likely be bidding only against themselves. The Cubs went ahead and set the market giving Lester a $155 million deal so I'm assuming the 180 is what Max will end up with.

Remember Vic, last year he turned down 6 years and $144M ($24M per) from the Tigers. Saying he was looking for 8 @ $200M so although it would be nuts I do think some team (hopefully not the Yankees) will be dumb enough to give it to him.

He can look for $300 million if he wants it's up to a team to give it to him. There are very limited clubs who would go to the type of money he's looking for. If you're the lone club and there's no bidding war it would be dumb to compete against yourself.

We all remember when the Yanks said they wanted to get their payroll below 200 mil ect..and then went out and spent more saying they are committed to winning..ect ect...

Just for arguments sake, lets say they did sign Max or any other top free agent for a huge 10 yr contract.....
Or maybe less than 10 years, more like 7 or 8 years?

    In two more years:
Tex' money will be coming off the books.
The Yanks could very possibly have young homegrown inexpensive players at SS,2B,RF,1B with Gregorius, Refsynder, Pirela , Greg Bird <--- by all accounts he has a real chance to a ML power hitter....
If not all of those positions maybe (should) at least 2 or three of those positions.
And in three years Arod will be coming off the payroll.

Maybe this could ( should?) be part of the Yankees' plan -- IF THEY WERE TO SIGN a huge long term free agent.

All in all, I've been repeating myself, when I say, Max will blow his shoulder, elbow or wrist, or a combo of all the above; and I'd be damned surprised if Max is even Pitching in 6 years time.

Take a good close look at his delivery in slew-motion. His over Pro-Nation is serious grounds for TJ Surgery; Cuff repair, et al. I honestly would be surprised to not see him blow his arm out. That being said, I'd not balk as Yanx brass; to only offer him a 4/20 Million $$$ contract, if he balks which he will, then let him be someone elses problem.

Max is not the Savior alone, the Yanx need. Rather they don't need another high priced SP on the DL for a year or 2. Let him go, sign with some fool who will wind up eating years of his contract. The Yanx already have a few too many players already in this category.

...I read an article awhile ago that actually took note of how good his pitching motion and mechanics are. He said he was very aware of whether or not he was getting out of the correct slot or "out of plane" and avoiding the dangerous "inverted w".

Joel Sherman just gave an update on the Yankees at the meetings- they probably go with younger players like Refsnyder and Pirela to fill holes or help out at 2b/3b/RF....and they WILL also address the SP.

If this means one of the two big free agent SP especially Scherzer with the larger price, then maybe the Yanks are thinking it won't be so crazy if they are thinking just as I said in post 12 of this thread.
The payroll will balloon (lol), and drop down after two years and more so with Arod's money coming off the books in three years.
The salaries (spending) are going up because there is much more money available to teams...for crissakes, even the smaller market teams are shelling out big contracts.
