This has been a team I've been following since I started watching the NBA in 1993.... This is a team who (yes, even moreso than the Lakers) have THE most storied and successful franchise in league history. Multiple championships, multiple hall of famers... All-stars, history, pride, etc. And with the exception of an appearance in the ECF a coupla years back, they've practically been a doormat since their last Championship run in 1986.Having said all that... Do you think that the Celtics will ever be able to return to it's former glory (as in, winning a Championship) anytime soon? Or will it take years and years of changes and rebuilding for this franchise to become successful again? Will Paul Pierce remain the staple of the team as he has since he started, or will he try and win a ring with a more successful team? Will Danny Ainge (who was my FAVOURITE player back when he was active) start making some real positive decisions/changes for the team and get them back on track (firing Doc Rivers would prolly be a start I'd say)? Or will it take someone else to make the change? If you were in charge, how would you get the Celts back to their winning ways?I love this team... They exemplified work ethic and Championship prestige (see: Dynasty), and hopefully someday they'll be able to reach that pinnacle again.

I think it's inevitable that the Cs will EVENTUALLY become contenders. will it be soon? I don't know. but to answer your question of "waht happened to boston?", I'll try my best to answer it.First off, the "upstairs" of the organization sucks. We have a cheap owner (the biggest contract handed out since Wyc has been owner was Mark Blount's), a GM that thinks he owns a fantasy team, a coach that thinks defense isn't important.next, experience is a big problem. If we had SOME veterans or a competent coach, this wouldn't be much of a problem (see, Chicago Bulls). This team can't execute at the end of games. They have a lot of heart, I'll give them that, but they need composure. Just because a player is young doesn't mean they have to play immature. And the worst part is, they've been told that it's okay to lose those close games because of the youth. news flash guys: IT'S NOT OKAY TO LOSE IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!! I'm tired of hearing this moral victory bullsh**. when they count moral victories towards the playoff standings, let me know. This team needs to grow up, fast.We have seen a lot of individual improvement, but the team's mindset is stuck in mediocrity. This isn't due to a lack of talent or chemistry, it's due to a lack of control and defense. This can be put on the players, but a load of it goes on Doc. He says he is not playing rondo because he is "not an offensive threat". HELLO?!?! not everybody on the court has to be a scorer you moron! rondo is THE GUY we need on the court. One of the few guys that plays with composure on this team, at both ends. Yet, he's rotting on the bench so "veterans" like brian freaking scalabrine can try to perform up to his contract (which he CAN'T).that felt good.

I dont think so.

    1. They decided to let every old Celtic stay with the C's for their whole career instead of dealing a couple for some future assets.
    2. Len Bias and Reggie Lewis passed away.
    3. Management from 1996-2002 was terrible.
    4. The break-up of Pierce/Toine.
    5. Ainge decided to start to go young, but without an actual young star to build around.
    6. Ainge has yet to actually sketch out a plan/direction.
    7. We do not have a good coaching staff.

oh yeah, pitino COMPLETELY F*cked us over.and the fact that we're stuck in "in between" mode doesn't help (the fact that we can't get out of the first round OR draft a star).

I was kinda excited when Pitino originally came in... I thought maybe he'd be able to turn things around for the team... But it turned out being a bust... I'd like to know (because I'm more a casual fan than hardcore follower, but still faithful nontheless) what happened with him anyhow? Did it just turn out he was more suited to coach College ball, and didn't mesh well in the pro's or what?

he was pretty much going to be assassinated if he stayed in Boston.but seriously, he was definitely not suited to be in the front office anywhere, much more suited to be a college coach. he just couldn't handle the responsibility of the pro's I guess.

Yeah, having Pitino take the responsibility of handling the coaching and the moves upstairs was a terrible mistake. He was a terrible evaluator of talent, he drafted terribly, he was very impatient with the solid young players we actually did bring in, and the trades he made made me want to stab someone.

I have thought this all along, and I still do: if Pitino was a coach in the NBA (even now) and ONLY handled the coaching, he would do a good job in the NBA. He's an outstanding college coach, he would be a good NBA coach if that's all his responsibility was.

    - Is New Jersey a one man team? No, they have Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, and Nenad Krstic with other solid young players.

    - Is Toronto a one man team? No, they have Chris Bosh, T.J. Ford, Morris Peterson, a few good role players, and some young potential.

    - Is New York a one man team? No, they don't even have a #1 option.

    - Is Boston a one man team? Eh, somewhat, but not really.

I think the atlantic became the no-defense division of the nba. that's what happened to the atlantic.
