NEW YORK -- The players' association filed an unfair labor practice charge Friday against the NBA over its issues with the new ball and the league's crackdown on player complaints.A number of players publicly have complained about the change in the ball from leather to microfiber composite. But the crackdown on complaints after the whistle, often referred to as a "zero-tolerance policy," might be the bigger problem. With players fined for each technical they receive, union director Billy Hunter told The Associated Press last month that a lawsuit could be the next step if NBA commissioner David Stern didn't tell the referees to "back off."Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press
Uh Oh!I hope I'm not seeing a lockout! :cry2: The ball and the silly little rules can change as far as I care, as long as the game still exists.

To tell you the truth, the NBA just started to go Global, and expansion into continents like Africa, Asia, were beginning to happen, and I was getting excited for Basketball in general. My thoughts on the players reacting is kind of reasonable, but I think it is their coaches and trainers responsibility to react and tell players to steer clear of technichals, period. I also think that the attitude Stern is showing is kind of a cry for help in some ways, im guessing he is sick and tired of Stern getting pushed around by his players, as they get into fights alot, try to bend the rules, and I think he is scared for his reputation. Unfortunately, I dont think the players will win this, and will have to play basketball and get on with it, thats what makes you pro, you can play under any circumstances.
I hope yall realize its not just Stern behind a desk thinking of evil ways to destroy the NBA. I dont agree with the NBAs recent actions that past seasons, but its a committee of people making these rules and such. So this isnt just a hit against Stern, this is a hit against the NBA. And like Pacers said, this might be a lockout. But I see the NBA doing a lockout again. Spalding didnt want to make leather balls anymore, and the NBA comprimised and decided to go with the microfiber ball. They used it in the All-Star game and players didnt really complain about it then(atleast from what ive heard). I hope they go back to the leather ball(even if its a different company) and they cut the 0-tolerance rule, it just gives a reason for refs to be dicks to the players(although some refs ive seen[mainly the older ones]let the small stuff go. But my point is even though Stern is the "head-man" of the NBA, and he has a special relationship with Doc Rivers :HAHAHA: , but it isnt just him making all these rules and stuff. I just hope the law-suit works out best for the NBA players.
There is no way a lockout would occur right now, or even at the end of this season... a lockout would occur when the current CBA expires, and that isn't for awhile. Now, the players union could just tell the players (prior to training camp next season) not to show up... which would be considered a "strike" or sorts. But anyway, I'm happy to see Hunter is taking the players' interests into consideration and what not, but I really do not like this move. The players aren't going to win anything, and as much as they don't like the new ball... they will get used to it eventually. They just don't like change, which is normal, but they need to realize they are going to be practicing with the balls all year, etc., and they will get used to it. The ball has already improved scoring by 2 points per game across the league, and has also improved FG% across the league (from 43% last year to 45% this year). Turnovers may be up, but overall the ball has made a positive impact, if anything.Nothing big is going to happen here...
This is great to see. Maybe they can persuade some changes to be done. I'm sure they'll be able to do something because whatever Stern does to try to get some money in his pocket he needs the players for. If the players aren't happy he will be in trouble. I hope a lockout or strike doesn't happen but I hope that some of these dumb new rules can be changed.

Lockout's happen when a bargaining agreement can't be reached and the NBA can't play.

The players association is just flexing it's mucles right now with this...letting everyone know it's there.
I'm glad they are finally taking action, Stern is starting to take the emotion out of the game big time. I saw another technical foul last night on Sheed. He dunked, then he pumped his fist in great excitement - he gets T'd up. I think that is completely ridiculous. If the players make a nice play, let them get excited. Let them pump their fist, then them scream in enjoyment. That's not "taunting," give me a break. My take: unless the players are bitching at the refs or continuously whining to them, yes T them up. But when they shout, pump their fist, etc. over a play? When they merely put their hands up at the ref after a call? Shake their head? Come on.I'm very happy the Players Union is taking some action and standing up to Stern. I think Stern will eventually reconsider some of his drill-sargent rules, but I do not think he will change the ball back.

I mean you make a big play, you get excited. You get excited as a fan right? OF COURSE. Now, imagine being the player that just made the play in which fans are raving about. Is he supposed to job up court and give himself a tennis clap? No, reacting (happily, by the way) should not be an issue to begin with.

He should know the rules, just about everyone else is following them.

It's his personality and initial reactions, he can't change that, and he shouldn't. And nobody else pumps their fist or yells after they make a big play? BULL. Every time LeBron dunks, he stares down the whole arena like a badass. Ronny Turiaf does the f*cking macarana on the court. Is that wrong? No, not in my book. I just can't stand the rules and how they are taking emotion and physical play out of the game.
Well the stuff after dunks can be annoying. Like watching KMart wave his arms around like a damn ape after his dunks.
