Yeah you're right, he certainly has his warts. Plenty of them. Also you are right about Harden, when Dwight went out he put up MVP numbers and led his team to wins alone. I don't think Harden-Dwight chemistry is all there, I think it's mainly because Dwight has it in his mind that he's Hakeem and demands post up. A lot of us wanted SVG as a coach here because he's the only guy that understood that Dwight at his best is cleaning the glass, blocking shots, and finishing plays not starting them.

As for Josh...it's a risk. He could come in here and ruin things definitely. He's going to put up his shots but this team has a very very defensive mentality. If Dwight misses a guy and gives up a easy layup you can see Harden give him a glare. You can see guys get upset and talk it over whenever easy buckets are given up. Point is, it's going to be very clear to Smith that you come here and you play defense before you play offense and I hope that gets him going.

Certainly a chance this can be a dud. Even a chance that it ruins team chemistry for good between Howard-Harden. After all Howard is a lifelong friend of Smith's, was his best man even. If it doesn't work out then hopefully there are no hard feelings any where and everyone moves on.

There is a chance though this is a successful move, that he revitalizes his career ala Z-Bo or lesser extent Rasheed. We really needed a guy that could guard stretch 4s and mobile fours like Blake and LMA and Anthony Davis now. Don't know if Smith can still do that, we sure going to find out since he playing in the west now.

the one thing you do have going for you is Howard's ability to get an offensive board. Teams will cheat off Smith the entire game. They will dare him to shoot. With Howard you know that he can punish teams if you cheat off him. Smith, not so much.

This is a high reward, low-risk option for the Rockets imho. There is a good chance they will get better because of that.

They said the same for Dallas and Rondo. So far Dallas is 1-3 since the Rondo trade.

Houston is deadliest when they are playing scramble ball. Smith isn't the type of player that knows how to play in this system.

Where Smith was at his best was when he was in Atlanta. That's when Atlanta had a highly efficient low pace style of basketball.

Morey brought in another defensive tool with the addition of Josh Smith.

But sacrificed major offense in process.

I guess we can wait and see, but I think this experiment will go bad and quick.

I think Terrence Jones is better than Smith when Howard is on the floor. But Jones is out for a while so Smith should help them at the PF spot for sure.

They really transformed their team from a offensive minded team to a defensive minded team.
Beverly, Ariza, Nick Johnson, Dwight, Smith, Brewer..........

Then when the game is on the line, they have Harden for their offense. It will be interesting see how it works out. If they get out and run they will be tough to beat in transition.

It's not uncommon for teams to struggle at first when they make a big trade.

It's also not uncommon for teams to completely lose on a move like this either.

Big difference, they did not lose anything as Dallas did and smith is not a primary ball handler

But oh they will. Smith will be getting roughly 30min a game. That takes out any player they used before. So regardless if they didn't trade a player, they trade minutes from already efficient players.

He'll replace Donatas Motiejunas in the starting lineup.

Houston got a talented guy for nothing. I don't like to see that.

Especially when it's the guy who runs the offense.
