I know it's a little early and green to talk about Ager and if he was a good pick by the Mavericks. But I truly would not draft him if I could redo the draft. From the minutes he's received, he seems to think it's about him and he needs to do everything himself to stand out. Also, wasn't he supposed to be a decent shooter? 25% is awful. I'm surprized mavsfan sports an Ager avatar when he's more of a ballhog then Stackhouse.
Wrong. We could have done better. Im not asking for a Josh Howard type steal. Just a player that has basic contribution. Rok's right. When he gets subed in, for some reason its Ager time. Its all about him. He cant play on the floor with 4 other guys. Ager is very predictable when he has the ball, cause theres 1 option...f*cking shoot . Sorry about being a lit to harsh. But this kid needs to be tought. He tries to show up the coaches to much, he tries to impress them so much, its almost to a point where he sucks. Hopefully its just a sign of not maturing into his role.I watched Ager in college. I knew that if he would be drafted by a NBA team. Someone would have to work with him alot. His shooting never lived up to what it was. But all in all, do I think Ager was a terrible choice? No. I just think Mavs could have looked at their options better
I agree that it's too early to decide this. Wait a year and than we will have a better idea of what Ager has become.
Rok, as of right now I wouldn't be so alarmed if Ager doesn't impress this early on. It's just entering the second month of his rookie season and he doesn't get consistant minutes (nor should he at this point). I think the thing is with him, and a lot of rookies/young players, is that when they finally get out there they try too hard. They feel like they have to impress everybody right away, so they try too hard and think to much. He'll come around as time goes along. This kid is a good scorer, and he can stroke it from deep. He's athletic, passionate, and a burst of energy. He's scuffled on the bench behind too many veteran wings for him to get out there right now. But like I said, it's as if he feels he has to impress each time he gets out there. He'll be ok, and I think it was a pretty good pick.
I'm still on the fence. I think he was basicly the best option available. We needed a shooting gaurd for the future and thats what we got. I look back on the draft board and I dont see a guy who I would rather have that is behind him. There are a few that I would of loved to have that are a few spots ahead, but none really behind. I don't think we really would of or could of traded up either. Maybe if we would of traded for a future pick it would of been better. Now I dont care how far fetched this would of been, I would of loved to seen us make a move to grab a Brewer or a Sefolosha or even a Shawne Williams. As of now, I'm agreeing with Rok that he is unpolished and looking for his stats. I think he'll improve and get better. I think he will eventually be a good scorer off the bench. Maybe not that 6th man like Stackhouse is, but I'd be content with a good 6-10 point scorer who plays good defense. Not every first round pick is going to grow into a 20 point starter.

I know he's a rookie and sometimes they try too hard for their own shot. But some of the things I've saw is kind of disappointing and horrible imo. I would think 4 years of college with a good program would have taught him being a show off gets you on the bench more then anything else. He needs to have someone tell him let the game come to you, rather then make it your own show as Lazy pointed out.
I think it's way too early to make a decision on this right now.He is a ball hog right now, but let's face it, when he's in there, it's in garbage time, and it's not like there are 4 guys that are tons better than him that should get the ball. He's not Josh Howard, nor will he be, but if he can turn into someone almost the calibur of Stack, than he'll be just fine.I probably would have taken someone else with that pick...but it's too early to say he's the absolute wrong pick.

And he doesn't do it. Just because he's a rookie, I don't think it should be ignored, it's a bad tendency to see. Hopefully he learns and improves, making me shut up. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>He's not Josh Howard, nor will he be, but if he can turn into someone almost the calibur of Stack, than he'll be just fine.</div> Couldn't the calibur of Stackhouse in his prime been as good or equal as Howard now? I mean Stackhouse was an All Star and led the league in scoring. I don't see Ager doing that. Unless you mean Stackhouse now.
I agree that he has been entirely disappointing so far and also agree that he is far too early in his career to be thrown out yet.A lot of other players have played tons worse and gotten more minutes, that's why they look better. He is not shooting well and not getting the ball around, but there are worse things for a rookie, perhaps. I don't think he's lost out there, and I don't think he doesn't have talent. He just doesn't "get it" yet. He doesn't have high basketball IQ right now. Dirk was considered a disappointment his first year, and look where he is now (apples and oranges, but there still is SOME application).

Thats the most I see out of Ager. Don't think he can get much better than that. Which, in my last post, I'm content with that. I think he could do well in that 6th man role if he ever gets his shooting touch better and isn't as selfish with the ball.

That's the thing, he doesn't HAVE a role right now. He's trying to get one. Therefore, yeah, he's trying to do too much without letting the game come to him. When he's in, he wants to get a couple shots up. He wants to show them that he can shoot. But you can't expect him to really do anything right away, no matter when he's in the game. And you certainly can't expect him to be a guy that knows his role, considering he's a rookie who doesn't even have a role right now.
He's always been known to keep shooting through slumps...I wouldn't be too worried, it's not like he was a top 15 pick or anything. I wouldn't go flying off the handle this soon, I have yet to watch him but from what I hear I'm not missing much.

Ager will always bring energy, and he does have potential to be a good scorer off the bench. He can really shoot the ball, he's quick, he's clutch, and he's passionate on the court. I really believe you guys will like this kid once he starts getting minutes. I watched him at Michigan State quite a bit, and he and Shannon Brown were a great combo. Ager impressed me in college, and getting him in the late first round is pretty good.
^I hope you're right, and like I said, it'll take a few years before he really starts to show his worth.
