Best Restaurant in Portland?

To go along with my "no reason to eat at a chain" comment I'll add that there is no reason to wait in a line to eat in Portland. None of the places that have those sorts of lines (Voodoo, Salt & Straw, etc) are worth the wait.

 

There was implied tongue-in-cheekiness, which does not always translate well on the webz.

 

Benihanas is probably one of the best chains ever. Justsayin.

Anyone who purchases a steak is a fool. Especially those 60 dollar ones at Ringside. It simply makes no sense to purchase corn fed beef.

 

Screen Door might be an exception to that rule

There's something to be said for a well managed line, too. Por Que No is always out the door, but is quick enough, you get your margarita early, and there's always a table when you're done ordering.

 

Pok Pok, Toro Bravo, Tasty N' Sons, and Pine State are all worth the wait.

And Blue Star donuts are awesome and I don't even like Donuts that much.

 

Benihana's sucks. I hate that place. I ate there free for my Bday though (Seattle location).

 

Pine State is good, but not worth an hour of my time.

Blue Star is really good, though. I like Coco Donuts better, but I'm weird.

 

PSU farmer's market location has usually short wait. Whenever I'm in town I try to go though. I think it's worth it if your hungry

 

Good call on that location (provided you are walking there; parking is a nightmare). I lived by the one on Belmont back when it was there, and the hipster line sucked the enjoyment out of it. I could have ground the wheat, raised the chickens, and slaughtered the pig myself in less time than it took to get that sandwich.

Oh, you're thinking of Acropolis. This Greek restaurant out in the Sellwood area.

 

Acadia is my favorite grub spot in the winter time. Pambiche in the summer.

 

That Peruvian restaurant on 10th is super-awesome too. Is that Pambiche?

 

Pambiche is a Cuban joint over on like 30th and Glisan? Maybe more closer to 20th.

The place you're thinking of is Andina. It was pretty good.

 

Just took my wife to Portland City Grill Tuesday for her birthday. First time there and it was fantastic. We went to El Gaucho for our anniversary this fall and DAMN! Worth every peso.

 

Ringside hands down.

 

I disagree. They're all good, but no place is worth waiting in line for an hour (especially ice cream or doughnuts) when you can throw a stone in any direction and hit another good restaurant. If I want to eat at any place that's known to have a long line I'll choose a time and location that'll nearly guarantee a walk-in-and-sit-down dining experience.
As far as I'm concerned the downtown Voodoo is for out-of-towners only.

 

Voodoo in general is for tourists only. Not very good at all.
