Dude, you were in like junior high when the Sonics left, lol (I had just graduated high school i think, but still)
Fuck Seattle. True Sonics fans, I can respect, the ones through thick and thin. But a majority of Seattle-ites are suburban yuppie bangwagoners, as you can see with their manufactured "12th Man" bullshit. I wouldn't expect them to like Portland. I remember I went to Seattle a few years ago after they lost the Sonics. Some fuck came up to me randomly and was like "Yeah bro, the Lakers won tonight". I was like "Fuck the Lakers" and he genuinely looked Shell-Shocked. A lot of Lakers fans up there for some reason, I think B-Roy was a L*kers fan growing up.
The whole 12th man thing is over a decade old for the Seahawks... (the raising of the Flag and jersey stuff at least)
Fuck the Seachickens (sorry Paul). I'm tired of them being forced down our throats. I dont know how anyone in Oregon can root for them. Boo all things Washington.
ugh, between the patriots, cowboys, and seachickens, thats all we get for football broadcast here in OR. f-that.
Yeah, and that was tame. I took my young daughters to a Timbers "match" a couple of years ago. Never again.
The Seahawks actually retired the #12 on December 15, 1984. The Kingdome was very, very loud as well. It's been going on for quite some time. Texas A&M started the whole 12th Man thing though. Go Hawks, either way.
I guess I just won't understand, and it's not a big deal as it doesn't affect my fandom, but I don't get how you can "hate the seahawks cuz they were forced down our throat" but then be a niner fan. They're still a rival city, they (at least when I was a kid) were still on TV (and good!) and they're still farther away from POR than PHI is from Boston (to say nothing of NY, Pitt, WAS, NYJ, etc). But I guess there was a slim chance in hell my dad might take me to a game in the KingDome (never got to) and not so much a road trip to Candlestick. But like I said, whatever. And the SEA fans I know from SaveOurSonics have a healthy rivalry with us, but it's not like we feel about the L*kers or Rockets (nowadays) or anything. tHere's respect there.
Their bitterness is derived from the Oregon Duck domination over the Washington Huskies in the last 20 years. Who can blame them? With that said, I don't like them but I pull for the Seahawks due to Paul Allen. I hope he has success. I'm surprised their isn't some of that going on up there with our Blazers.
It's not about violent and dangerous. It's about hipster douchebags gathering in large numbers and reinforcing and refining group asshole-ish behavior.
That chant was something I would have sung with the same glee when I was in grade shcool. And it was tame compared to others. The whole event was like a giant frat boy contest to see who could drink the most beer. I'll never take my daughters to another one. I won't be going on my own either.
have you actually been to a timbers game? And have you ever been to a football game? Hell, I went to a game in San Diego once, probably 15+ years ago, and even that laid back conservative town had it's fair share of fights in the stands.
How is the Bay Area a rival city in the same way that Seattle and Portland are rival cities? We have the huskies, sounders, and at one point the sonics. Are the Warriors supposed to be a rival? Are the Bears or cardinals supposed to be a rival on the same level was u dub? The rivalry goes back almost a hundred years when the two cities were founded. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I didn't say football games weren't violent and dangerous. I didn't say a damn thing about football. All I said was that soccer fans can't seem to see that hipster douchebag assholes are too dumb to see that they are playing a part in keeping soccer from being more popular in the US.
I'm sorry, I was meaning "city that drives culture and business" rather than sports. If you're just talking sports, then ok I guess.
again, the fans at football games aren't exactly the cream of the crop either. That hasn't kept football from being popular.
I've never been to an NFL game. It's unlikely I'll go to one. I love attending college football games though.
