If you had read the thread, you'd have seen that I already agreed Butler has a chance.

Lillard deserves it over Paul and Westbrook.

Why Westbrook has a 32 PER and doing everything he can to keep the Thunder in contention, he has been a monster.
Paul has been more efficient than Lillard and is a more true PG.
Lillard has a great case for an All Star birth and deserves to go over Kobe but not necessarily over Westbrook or Paul.

MIP is a lock for him, as long as he stays healthy. The problem with MVP is the record will dictate the outcome of the vote. If he does win it, I wouldn't be surprised though

I just dont see him putting big enough individual numbers to generate the award. Not with Westbrook and Davis Posting 32+ PER's and the silly numbers Curry, and Harden put up. Plus then you have the Lebron factor. MIP, All-star, NBA All Defense all are possible even likely but MVP is likely not possible.

Harden has been shooting terrible and is a turn over machine. I don't see him making too much noise. Westbrook really can't win if he's leading a bottom 8 playoff team. As amazing as AD is, no player has ever won the MVP when their team didn't make the playoffs.

Curry, Aldridge and Gasol would be my top 3 candidates.

Aldridge is not even the best player on this team he has zero chance. I would put him behind Lowry and Wall.

Granted no player ever has won the award without a winning team but if he continues this pace AD will have the highest PER ever recorded in NBA history. That would give him a real shot. Also to be fair Westbrook is also on that pace.

why have any other stat? apparently per is the only one needed to justify anything.

Millsap over Aldridge? Sure, why not. Teague would probably be ahead of Lillard too... <smh>

Advanced metrics like PER are major criteria for votes. A teams win loss record and a player reputation are contributing factors.

Aldridge has a lower PER than Lillard and most other candidates his TS% is pathetic at .514 and his real defensive plus minus numbers rank him 47th among PF's. Aside from that Lillard has hit the clutch shots that generate media attention and buzz. The team is winning so he will get some credit there but none of that IMO gives him anything close to a realistic shot at the MVP.

Not my list. But Atlanta is 2-8 and Milsap is their star player. He was an all-star last year.

Sure, but the Blazers are a better team, with a better record, in the better conference, and Aldridge scores and rebounds more than Millsap does. I get Millsap being an all-star, sure--but 8th on the MVP list, putting up 16 & 8? I don't think so.

BTW--wasn't critiquing you, just the list you posted. If it were your list, I'm sure Butler would have been much higher. :devilwink:

KIA thinks so, and the award is named the KIA MVP award. Go figure :)

Never said Aldridge should be in mvp discussions. i agreed with you there. but using one stat is dumb, whether coming from a fan or an 'expert'.
