Any other homebrewers on here? I have a 10 gallon all grain system, 5 fermentor capacity fermentation chamber and a 4 tap kegerator. Also just got a chugger pump and plate chiller for xmas. Haven't used it yet, hope to in a week or so. I am a hop head, so IPAs and PAs are a specialty, but I make pretty much anything. Have a 18 month old, bourbon oak aged Scottish Ale on tap right now, pretty taste (and at 12% kicks your butt)
I recall having this conversation before. I've assisted, but personally I do not home brew. I've also put drinking in the rear view, at least temporarily, maybe permanently...but who knows. Definitely the way to go, and if you are still working on home brewing then I'm sure you've gotten to where you are making some pretty delicious creations! That Scottish ale sounds like it is really good.
Yeah, we talked about it over on the "other" board. I have ramped up a little, went from a 4 gallon kettle on my stove using extract to a 15.5 gallon kettle and doing 10 gallon all grain batches. It is an addiction hobby if you like your beer! I was working in supply chain at a local brewery in Portland for a few months, got lots of great reviews from brewers and QA people there (Including a certain guy who started a very well known brewery in Portland 30 years ago with his brother). Was pretty proud of that. It is funny, I don't drink as much anymore either (empty calories, have dropped 100 lbs in the last year), I end up giving away most of my beer, or when friends come over they know they don't even need to ask, just drink. I also built my dad a kegerator for Xmas, so I will be brewing for him. Good way to practice my trade.
I am OSU alumn, so yeah.. that is doubful... The game does happen to be on my bday, so I am going to be doing some Ribs on my Traeger and watching the game with my Beaver brethren.
I brew. When I brew at home I'm still stuck with extract, but lately I've been brewing with my buddies who have all grain equipment. Pretty much only brew IPA's the last few years.
Do you bottle or keg? Are you able to do full boils? One thing I did that improved my beer when I was extract was starting to do partial mashes. I would get about 1/2 of my sugars from grain, and was able to do it all in my kitchen pretty easily without having to have a bunch of equipment.
Kegging the is only way to go. I hate bottling. Only time I do is when I enter in a comp, and then I use the beer gun so I don't have to deal with bottle conditioning.
