The thing with Deng is he can only play SF and PF (and PF is a stretch). Batum could slide to 2, which would give Deng more minutes, but that would reduce playing time for CJ and Crabbe. Don't get me wrong... Dang is 10x the player Crabbe is, but I'm hoping that Crabbe and CJ will eventually be enough for us years down the road.

The only Deng rumor I'm seeing is that the Grizzlies are pursuing him, not so much that the Heat want to ditch him. Also, with Hassan Whiteside playing well for them, at a legit 7', their need for a center may be decreasing. If Deng is available, however, T-Rob & Wright straight across for Deng also works.

I don't think this is the time to worry about that. This is the time to win a title. Sort out the future next summer.

You really think the Heat will give up Deng for T-Rob & Wright? Deng is a starting SF.

Not really, no. But again, my post was IF the Heat are making him available. They would only be doing that, presumably, because they're giving up on the season, and want to clear cap room for this coming summer. That deal would accomplish that, saving them money both this year and next.

If you were to suggest a deal for Deng to Portland, what would you propose?

Batum & Deng have around the same deal. Deng has a player option 15/16, Batum does not.
I think the heat would be asking for someone like CJ or Crabbe. Maybe along with Leonard or a draft pick with an expiring deal. Or they could ask for Batum who doesn't have a player option come 15/16 and he's younger. I do think they would want more than just Wright & T-Rob though.

The Grizzlies have long been interested in Jeff Green but Danny Ainge has a high asking price, according to USA Today Sports

I think if there was ever a question asked, Batum wouldn't mind coming off the bench. He's a team player and will do whatever it takes for the team to win. I equally believe Deng would do the same. So in other words, the coach can make a decision without worry that either player would care to come off the bench.

All you would have to do is use Freeland, instead of T-rob and it still works.

Boston would be the target for me. Brandan Wright can be traded in February. I would try to get Wright and Green from them for a combination of CJ, Robinson, Freeland, and Dorell. If you add Wright and Green to our bench, I think we instantly have one of the best benches in the league with Blake, Green, Wright, and Kaman. Actually, with the addition of Wright, Kaman becomes somewhat unnecessary.

Agreed. And personally I feel like Deng would be better suited to the 6th man role as he can focus on scoring, which is more important to have coming off the bench, and Nic's role as a jack-of-all-trades works better with our higher-scoring players.

Yeah that does make a lot of sense. I think more fans wouldn't be as frustrated with Batum not being aggressive on the offensive end either.

I really value Freeland's contributions to the team. Don't want to trade him at all.
