Part 2 in our "Would you rather" series: Would you rather be a recording artist (your preferred genre) or a pro-athlete (your preferred sport). I'm thinking of this in terms of a 10-year career (ages 21-30), although you're free to consider any parameters that seem appropriate to you.

Athletes have to exercise and watch what they eat on a professional basis. Musicians get to party and eat all they want, in fact it even makes some of their music better. Im going with musician.

I would choose recording artist for several reasons...

    1.) I am a musician
2.) I think there is more chance for an artist to evolve into a producer, which is what I've always wanted to be
    3.) The chics and drugs!

I think pro golfer would be legit. I don't need chicks or drugs, and I like the idea of being able to make a living in a sport where I don't have to subject my body to unnecessary wear and tear or that a freak fall might wipe my career out. Plus, I like the late earning power.

Being on the road as an musician/singer seems a lot like deployment. Lots of time away from home, very few days off, you might get shot...

pro athlete. success in music is largely dependent on your fan base and people might not like me but in sports, all you need is a good team (for team sports that is) and there's more money in sports

There is definitely more freedom in every sense as an artist.

Professional athletes are but slaves on a modern plantation.

I strongly disagree unless you own a team. How many billionaire sports players you know? I can only name 2 (Jordan and Tiger Woods before divorce). Also, 60% of millionaire athletes go bankrupt after retirement. Only a select few get a chance to make money after they play.

there aren't many billionaire musicians either. most millionaire athletes go broke because of lifestyle choices. i personally have no need for 5+ cars. how can you be making millions per year for 10+ years and not invest? and those who invested and went broke usually invested ALL their money in things that tanked (the tanking could happen to anyone). most athletes who have/had a sound financial plan and overall money management goes broke.

I'm guessing you'd be a struggling INDIE artist then?

athletes make more, but artists dont have drug tests

although, artists can make money until their death (27 or so)
