<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I rekon Lebron James will be MVP this year</div>How much different is Lebron from Yao? If you look at their stats, they are basically the same. Yao dominates in the categories a center is supposed to be dominant in, and Lebron is great in the small forward areas. Both are undisputed team leaders, and the Rockets have the better record in the tougher conference. So then, why is it that Lebron is mentioned in every MVP conversation, and Yao is rarely? Is it because Lebron is ESPN's boy. There is no denying the fact that Sportscenter just loves the King and all his breakaway dunks, just as much as they don't like Yao and his bang-it-down low, *boring* style. Is it because Yao isn't flashy, and Lebron and spins, crossovers, and passes are in the spotlight all the time? Or is it because Yao isn't supposed to mentally tough?Which is it?
^^^hey manI have heaps of respect for Yao Ming, believe me, someone who is that tall and can play like him is just amazing. What you said above is real talk, but its probaly the reason why

Lebron James does not have a second scoring option, like Mcgrady, that can take over a game and become the primary scoring option. I think it's considered that if you take Yao Ming off of the Rockets, and Lebron James off of the Cavaliers, you will have a much bigger fall off for the Cavaliers than the Rockets because they will still have a better team around them.

But his influence is still undeniable. What are the requirements for an MVP, or being a candidate for it? Well, I look at these categories, and I think most people would agree with me:- Their team is winning, preferrably in the top 4 of their conference- They are playing very well, statistically- They are the leader of their teamI think Yao fulfills those categories, and if you mention Boozer or Howard, or even Dirk or whoever, you have to include Yao.
Wow you guys lol I can't believe how many people here seemed to have misread the topic. He's saying if the MVP were to be picked TODAY who would it be. As of right now my pick would either go to TD, Melo, Yao, or LeBron. Kobe would also be a big possibility since the Lakers have been very impressive so far.

When you have a seven footer like that, that can hit the mid range shot, dunk on just about anyone down low, has impressive moves down low, finish's well and can pass out of double and triple teams like Yao does it is hard to stop someone like that. I was just saying, when it comes to Lebron James and Yao Ming, Yao Ming has alot more help around him than Lebron James does. That's the reason why I would think they would pick Lebron over Yao Ming. As far as Yao against Boozer or Howard, I think there is good reason to pick Ming over those two.
As of now, I would say Melo. He is doing INSANE out there. I am very impressed by how well he is doing, and how much work he must have done in the off season to become this good.
I like Dwight Howard but I don't think he's an MVP until he gets much more consistent on offense. He's averaging 17/13/2/2 and shooting an insane 60% from the floor...and his team is winning...but for me he needs to be more of a threat on offense. He's relying more on his athletic ability and brute strength then real offensive moves. I'd wait another year before he's ready for MVP talk. For me, an MVP has to be great on both ends of the floor. This is why I don't like guys like Steve Nash, Carlos Boozer or Michael Redd. (although Boozers defense isn't as bad as people think). Thats why my MVP guys are going to be Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan or Dwyane Wade...etc...
Healthy and carrying the Spurs to the 3rd best record in the league while putting up his typical numbers I will stick with my pre-season pick Tim Duncan :happy0144: Even though some people thought I was crazy at the time

He's 18th overall in blocks (3rd in centers), under guys like Etan Thomas, Darko Milcic (who's averaging 13 less minutes), and Kendrick Perkins. He's 15th in rebounding (3rd in centers) under guys like Udonis Haslem and Rasheed Wallace. Yao is 7'6" for goodness sake! Tonight he even was outrebounded by T-Mac (8 to 10)! He has no excuse for not averaging at LEAST 10 rebounds a game, but currently his average is 9.7. He leads centers in blocks, turnovers, and is 2nd in all centers in assists, but he only gets 2 assists a game so it's not like he's amazing.Yao as MVP is ridiculous.

It has nothing to do with height, it's instincts/desire/jump quickness. Don't you realize that Yao being 7'6" actually hurts his rebounding game more than anthing? People as tall as Yao Ming have slower lateral quickness and recognition...thats why Yao will never be a 14rpg guy and thats not a problem for me.
If the suns win 55 games or more Steve Nash will win his 3rd straight MVPOtherwise it will be Lebron James

It's just not going to happen.

The last person to win 3 straight MVP's was Larry Bird and they are not even remotley close on the same level. Winning 3 MVP's in a row is way too difficult. I dont think Nash is playing any worse than the years that he won it, but he just won win it. I would love to see a guy like Melo or Timmy win it. I would love Carmelo to win it because he has really taken the backseat to Lebron and I think him winning the MVP before Lebron does would be remarkable. His team is playing great right now and so is he. As for Tim Duncan, I would love him to win it because some people pre season said Timmy was on the decline and wasnt near as good as he was. I dont think he will win it, but he will be in the runnings as long as the Spurs are at or near the top of the west.

Right now, it's Carlos Boozer, but I don't think he, or the jazz for that matter, can keep it up. Dirk may finally get it, or LeBron.

They don't have to lead their team and stay in 35 minutes. They can come in 10 or 15 minutes and challenge every shot. They can get three fouls, but for them, it doesn't matter.Secondly, on the same day, Yao got 8 rebounds, Dwight Howard, the leading rebounder in the NBA, also got 8. On that day, Tim Duncan got a grand total of 4 rebounds, and got out-rebounded by not only Raymond Felton, but also by five other guys. You can go on using a one-game argument all day. Every guy has their off-day, and Yao had his.Furthermore, last time I checked, Lebron wasn't burning up at the free throw line. He's shooting 70% (Yao's percentage, FYI, is 85). Everyone has their weaknesses. And you know what? Last time I checked, the Rockets were 12-6, 5th in the conference, and a game-and-a-half out of the Southwest lead. Now, I'm not saying Yao can't improve. He can, but you're nit-picking, and Yao is just a legitimate candidate. Now, then, tell me exactly why you think Yao as an MVP candidate is a ridiculous thought.
