This is one to get a player's confidence up:Don Nelson commenting on Mike Dunleavy Jr. being booed by Golden State Warriors fans at home: "A lot of it is his own fault. He needs to step up and do more. I mean, I have the same problem the fans do. I'm not booing him, but I've thought about it a few times."

Nelson's been bashing Mike Dunleavy all season in the press. Dunleavy's always been a dissapointment, I don't see the big deal with Don giving him crap.

The kid was the #3 overall pick and he hasn't done anything above average in his career. If Nelly thinks throwing him under the bus is the best way to get some production from him, then I'm all for it because Dunleavy is pretty desperate for any signs of development.

That quote is a few weeks old, and I really don't mind it either. All of Golden State's players have said that he doesn't sugar coat things with them... he tells them if they suck, etc., and so far it has worked for pretty much every Warrior except Dunleavy. Like Mobruler said he has not done much to justify being the #3 overall pick in the draft...

Oh, well... Mike Dunleavy, Jr., can't always pull out miracles... It's not always "like father, like son", right Clippers?

Its still hard to hear that in the media. Some players might take it as an insult, some might get inspired and prove the coaches ass wrong, and some might take it lightly and shrug it off. Eithier way, its not easy showing that to your family on ESPN every night. I got to feel sympathy for him, coaches are there for support, Don is here to be a critic, I would have adressed him 1 on 1 at least.

Im sorry, but if a coach is going to talk bad about you, what is your purpose in putting in any effort. Sure he has underperformed considering he was a #3 pick in the draft, but it doesn't deserve being booed by your own fans....and even more, your coach. There is no need to say that to the public.

He's getting paid a lot of money and is not playing well at all....I'd boo his ass too. Coaches used to bash players to the media but now it's taboo...because god forbid a player gets called out. George Karl did it in Milwaukee all the time...now players feelings get hurt..ugh.
