Though it makes sense Sather likes him. His PPG average this year is decent as is his plus minus. He's had one 20 goal season.

I really hope we can do better than Winnik or Santorelli. Winnik is more a wing than a C, and scores like 6-8 goals per season. On the plus side he has some size. Sant is a C who hasn't been great on face-offs this season, and outside of one season never scored more than 10 goals. Plus he is hurt like every season and isn't a big guy.

Between these two guys I rather have Winnik because of his size, but than we still need to add another scorer for some scoring depth, and maybe a C still. What about Winnik and Vermette. Nice duo. And Zona keeps losing so they might look to sell as well.

I do think the Leafs will start to sell very soon and Sant and Winnik will both go. Winnik helps with size, but still need more scoring. Winnik won't help there or on face-offs either.

To be fair to Santorelli. I said a week ago that this team had nobody that can fill in from the Pack for an injury other than maybe Lindberg and Allen. Injuries happen. Especially in the playoffs. So if Sather can get both Santorelli and Winnik for a manageable price who are both low cap hits and UFA's next season, it's probably a good thing. You can give and older player like D. Moore days off. You can not have Hayes take draws You might see a player like Fast struggle in his first playoff series and need to watch some. I think Winnik in a pinch could play on a top line and at least chip in offensively if somebody was hurt on those lines.

I don't disagree for depth. But neither one of those guys, even if they were together, puts us over the top IMO. I do like Winnik more though as I mentioned due to size and grit, which is what you need in the playoffs.

We may be more interested in Sant, who we wanted this past summer.

Dreger on NHL network just mentioned Sant as a trade target for us as well. Said it would be a good move for us, and the Leafs will be looking to get something done, and he expects us to be a partner if they continue losing. And they are down 3-0 after the 1st period tonight at Ottawa. They are a disaster right now. Free falling to the bottom. They will make moves not long after the AS break I think.

I think Sant would be a decent add, assuming we don't lose anything from the current NHL roster, but I do believe we'd still need another forward added to really give us what we need fully.

Second glance, if we could get Winnik and Sant together that would be okay. I have to think the Leafs will deal Winnik also, unless they are looking to resign him long term. That duo would fit well if we got them both.

I would trade Hagelin/Moore/2nd for Bozak. Santorelli is decent but not much an offensive upgrade. McGinn is someone they should be looking at too.

I don't think I'd give up that much for Bozak. Also not sure the Leafs would since both are RFA's, and Bozak has a decent contract for a few years. Also not sure I want Bozak the more I look at him. Just wonder if he is the kind of winning type player that we can count on. And he'd be on our 3rd line. Don't love it.

I am warming to Sant AND Winnik. You add both of them and you got something IMO. If you only add Sant I agree that doesn't improve us enough IMO sc to make us much better, I think we'd still need another forward.

Sounds like Sant at the very least is a target for us. I bet we do a deal with the Leafs for sure. Seems like a good fit. They have forwards to deal and we need forward depth.

McKenzie just mentioned us with Santorelli as well. And then mentioned Winnik as a guy who most likely could get dealt as well. Big guy, great PK guy, knows how to play Western physical hockey.
I think we'll get Sant at some point...question is do we have a shot at Winnik also? I bet you if Sather came in with a solid offer right now we could get both. Fast, pick, maybe McIlrath. I bet we can get them both. And if we get both I think we'd be pretty darn deep and complete.

They're decent 4th liners but i think i'd rather shoot for a little more of an impact forward like Vermette, Tlusty or Fleischmann. Is Santorelli any better than Moore or even Hayes at this point, not really imo.

Oh sure he is. Much better than Moore with regards to scoring goals IMO. The guy has 26 points this season. He is a top 9 forward. Winnik is a perfect 4th line guy and has size and is a strong PK guy. Both are solid + players on the terrible Leafs.

You need to look at what we need sc. We have two VERY strong lines. We need a 3rd line guy who can score 15 or so goals, and Sant is that. We can use some size and grit, and Winnik adds that, plus he can score 7 goals and 32 points or so.

So no Sant is not a 4th liner, he is a 3rd liner. No I don't think we need an impact forward. We have those already. We need good solid depth guys. You add these two to our team right now, and I think we'd be very difficult to beat. And I would say where is the weakness? On top of that they are both clearly obtainable and affordable, and we wouldn't need to give up a ton or proven roster players to get them.

I do fully agree the answer is not to just add Santorelli. If that was the option I would go with Vermette for a little more for sure. But a package of both these guys kills two birds with one stone IMO. 3rd line 15 goal guy AND size/grit.

I fully believe both get dealt. We'll see who gets them...and why not us in one package deal.

Winnick is a + 13 (best on the team) playing 16:30 per night.
Santorelli is a + 6 (3rd best on the team) playing 15 minutes per night.

BTW...the Leafs have FOUR players on the whole team that are a +...and one is a + 1...these guys are two of them. Says a lot IMO.

Leafs lost again tonight. Changes are coming. I bet within 2 weeks or so.

    Nash/Brass/Zucc
    CK/Step/MSL
    Hags/Hayes/Sant
    Miller/Moore/Winnick

Leaves Stemp for depth, or maybe we deal him to clear his 900 K. But either way that is a very solid forward group.

Have some size with Nash, and CK, and Hayes, and Winnick, and Miller.

Winnick and Miller can both bump up and play in the top 9 if needed for stretches.

Winnick has 19 points this season. More than Hayes, Stemp, or Moore.
Sant has as many points as Moore and Stemp combined.

Over 82 games Sant was at a 16 or 17 goal 45 or 46 point pace last season. This season he is on pace for 16 goals and 45 points. That is a 3rd line guy.

Not a lot of weakness there.

But I do 100% agree with you. Cannot be just add Santorelli and done. No way...him alone is not enough IMO.

McIlrath, Fast, picks and/or middle prospects gets them both IMO.

I don't know i suppose my issue is GS always seems to aim lower than he should at the dl, though bigger name dosen't always equal more. Should be interesting, we definately a few pieces to deal for one or two people.
