I was in my defense/tactics class tonight and we had our final simulation with a man dressed in a body suit. Our class was the only one that did not get to practise and we were all nervous. We got all suited up and we had to go in and control a upset suspect and bring him into custody. We were the third group to go and we listened to the first group and it sounded pretty bad and people were freaking out because we didn't know what to expect. We had knee and arm pads and a special helmet along with a radio and baton/spray. We had five instructors from different departments around to watch us and video tape. I had a partner named Beth who was one of the weaker students in class. I was the officer to go and she was my backup that would be called in to help. I got called to the door and walked in, the 'red man' was like 6'3" and with pads looked like a NFL linebacker...(I'm 6'2" and around 200 pounds) he immediately resisted and I got my pepper spray got stuck in my pocket and he charged me just as I raised it and he knocked it on the ground and took me on in combat...I lost control of what I had to do and he wrestled around against the wall and finally I got around his head and I pulled him in and got him down with multiple knee-strikes to his stomach and legs... Now he's on the ground and my partner is there, we command him to stay still...we should have just gone in on him there and he then gets up...ugh man...Thats when I whipped out my baton and hit him numerous times in the knee and ankle...we both whaled on him and he eventually fell...and then we got him down and handcuffed him...finally...we got him against the wall and the instructor blew the whistle...it was over...I threw off my helmet and started swearing because I knew I had failed not only myself but my partner...We then were led into a video room with one of our instructors and he went over what we needed to work on. 1. Calm, then get defensive. (I was defensive from the beginning and hyped out...and that set him off.) 2. Better stance and getting the spray out and not fumble with it. 3. Don't get stuck in a corner. 4. No sissy fight, use DAAT moves. He then failed us and we had to go again...I was pissed but confident. Then after waiting for other groups we got our chance, only this time I was the backup officer. Beth and I locked up and got ready and hyped up to do battle...we put our protective gear on and yet again it was go time....If you don't pass the second time you get a 'D' in the class which is not passing...so this was do or die...if I fail I have to drop some of my classes for next semester because DAAT is a prerec for many...So this 5 minutes was going to either pass me or fail me I'd have to take another semester to make up the classes. The other groups were cheering us on as Beth entered the DAAT room...my job was to watch my instructure for my signal to move in....She then moved in... I stuck my head in and was swearing out loud because she was not giving loud enough commands...she was effective and got the 'redman' down in a handcuffing position....then I got waved into the fight. 'Barry' the redman I knew from other classes was now ready to be handcuffed. But as soon as I entered he got out of position and came after Beth...she moved out of the way and I took out my pepper spray and nailed him...but he didn't go down...(because when a guy is pissed OC spray doesn't usually work, its when he's not pissed and not agressive when it works best because he doesn't feel the effects until after the fight and calms down). So I spray him three times and he turns and runs at me. I dropped my spray and took out my baton and hit him numerous times...the last time my baton slipped out of my hands and flew across the room...He knew this and came after me and we locked up, I punched him numerous times in the stomach in the struggle and he went down...Beth who lost her baton in the fight dove in on him and we grabbed his arms and finished cuffing and searching...Whistle blew...it was over... The instructor then came over and said we did a lot better and pointed out of flaws...I was confident that we'd pass...We were then led to the room to go over the video...He was dissapointed that we lost the batons but circled 'pass' and I nearly jumped out of my chair I was so relieved. He shook our hands and told us to go home...Now all we have to do is right a full police report on the event. I'm currently in the library typing this...I had to share it...I have never been so happy and relieved in my life. This was a huge hurtle for my program and future...and I passed....
Good for you. You sound pretty pumped about this. Don't worry about failing stuff though, I fail tests and quizzes and projects all the time and I'm turning out great ().

Umm... Good story, I suppose. Was the suspect just acting violent or was he really a criminal being hauled in?

OMG OFFICER BCB IS GOING TO START KEEPING THE BLACK MEN DOWN ON THIS FORUM WATCH OUT!!!!!Nice. Sounds tougher than I thought to train

So they have fellow students do it now so they don't get hurt.
I'd just run in with a baton spraying pepper spray everywhere and beat the guy in the head. Or just pull out a hidden can of bear mase.

You should've brought out the chairs! If you and Beth both had a chair, you could have nailed the guy in the back and the stomach at the same time! Then pepper spray him until he passes out, draw on his face, and then cuff the bi*ch!

Are these guys actually tryingto hurt you, or tryin to jus get you scared to do something, and these guys are from jail or somethin?
Yeah it doesn't really make sense to me, you really sprayed this guy and swatted him with a baton? What kind of dude would sign up or volunteer to be the redman?

These guys are volunteers..

Sounded intense but a lot of fun imo. Great job on passing.
I agree. I would have loved to beat the crap out of BCB and even better he'd have failed the class if I did.
