He was the happiest player that I ever saw. I enjoyed watching him play. RIP Ernie.

Ah 2 are better than 1.

I saw a game around mid-season, when Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, and Ferguson Jenkins were honored. Both Ryne Sandberg, (Cubs vs Phillies in Wrigley), and I forget the other bloke, walked out to the mound with all 3, as each one threw the 1st pitch out....

All 3 sang "take me out to the ballgame", in at the 7th inning. The one who spoke mostly for all 3 was Ferguson, and he made several mention of how hard it was to even throw a ball or even find comfort in the things or chores we take for granted.

Billy and Ernie just seemed to hang back, remain silent.....

    RIP Mr. "Let Play 2"

Excuse me Rick, honestly I just got out of bed, trying to focus my vision, saw this thread was about Ernie passing, and like a total flop, I did not equate 1+1 = 2, as I was reading about Banks dying, and still posting his age.......so much for posting WITHOUT at least a cup of coffee, and a wake up splash of water in the face......!MY BAD...!

The best was ten or so years ago I went to Cooperstown on the Saturday of Hof Weekend. Met so many legends and some no longer with us. That was really cool.

Vic, just curious, how did the ones look that are no longer with us? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I never had the pleasure of going to the HOF, had to be really cool.

Sorry Tom I was under the impression that you were REALLY old. With the exception of Yogi & Ford I was out of high school when all these other guys retired.
