<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Here's the latest attempt at behavior modification from the NBA: Henceforth players and coaches will be penalized if they chew gum and/or shift their weight from one leg to the other during the playing of the National Anthem.</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>It's not just the ball that's new and causing a backlash among NBA players. The league has a host of new rules and "points of emphasis" regarding the game's appearance, and those are hardly being welcomed by its players. When the Knicks played the Wizards at the Garden last night, there was a newly assigned official who was at the arena for the expressed purpose of watching for players pulling their jerseys out of their pants when they came out of the game. As of this season, that move is illegal and subject to fines. Those same set of eyes were looking for players wearing rubber bands with their names on them. Anyone caught displaying those would be subject to a call from the league, with a warning to stop. That same spy was busy during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner," watching for players chewing gum and shifting as they stood in line, which have been outlawed.</div>http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...0p-397143c.htmlI don't know about you guys but during my basketball games I am so anxious for the game to start I can't sit still.
I hate David Stern. A player can't wave side to side, what happens if they lose their balence or something? David Stern is THE MOST power hungry commishoner in the history of sports. He makes so many stupid unnessacary rules.
Wow. Wow.... Wow...WowThe league is making up issues to solve, even when no one gives a sh*t about them.Wow.

These rules are just being added on for the sake of enforcing rules nowadays, its ridiculous.
I think stern is racist and thinks they make the NBA too ghetto and gives them a bad image. if you read at the bottom it says:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>So Stern does, as is his right as commissioner. Some of the new rules do strike us as absurd. Does it really matter if Bryant wears his sweatband on his biceps instead of on his wrist? Hardly. But Kobe also had better remember to have his new jersey, No. 24, tucked in at all times, even when he comes out for a rest.</div>
Oh my god. Is Stern going to make the players stand straight up and salute the refs at all times also? Stern is turning this league into NBA bootcamp.
I think not being able to chew gum during the anthem is a good rule. Its a very good sign of respect. To Canada and America. You guys make Stern look worse than he actually is. I doubt anyone of you could run such a high profile job like the NBA. As for shifting on one leg or w/e, im iffy on that
LMFAO I'm not even going to waste my energy getting all worked up about this.BCB, if you defend him about this, I don't know what to say.
ok david stern is officially a dictator. how much more bullsh** is he gonna come up with? you can't chew gum during the national anthem or sway back and forth? is chewing gum unpatriotic? what about swaying? hell f*cking no. I hate david stern. every day is something new with this ***hole :ranting: can someone shoot him?
If I got paid several million dollars a year to play basketball for a few hours a week, I wouldn't care if they asked me to stand on my head and fold oragami birds during the National Anthem. Anyone who doesn't like it could always quit, forfeit their paychecks, and go sit at a desk for 40 hours a week.

I know it's not a big deal to not be allowed to do certain things during the national anthem but to make an actual rule saying you can't is ridiculous.

But you know what? It's absured. Now you can't even sway back and forth during the National Anthem? Or chew gum? Or wear a rubber band? I mean seriously, COME ON. Why not? Just why? I will never understand David Sterns reasoning for some of the outrageous rules he puts out there. This is completely absured, and this is all getting way out of hand.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I'm not even going to waste my energy getting all worked up about this.</div>OK, I lied.
Well he's trying to mold the NBA into more of a professional image. He's trying to make the NBA more marketable to a wider and older demographic. I don't really think it's unfair to ask a guy to not chomp gum during the National Anthem. Whether he handles it right or not, his intentions are good.
This is gay now...Stern is officially just trying to use his power in every little way possible so he can fine people to get money and to abuse his power...

I understand what he's trying to do, but he's taking it to the extreme..and anything extreme is to much. Wearing a collared shirt into the arena is about the only thing I can sit back and say...well Yeah, I can see how that is going to help the leagues image. The rest of it is pure crap. He is doing nothing but making the players unhappy. The fans come to the arenas to see the players. If the players are unhappy, the fans are unhappy about the players being unhappy.Nobody wins in this situation except for David Stern. That's it. There is no point to his madness.I cant wait until the All Star Game..NBA Finals ETC so these fans can BOOOO their hearts out when his name is said on the PA and he can be embarrassed like the little fairy douche that he is.

A player is swaying side to side while standing (and getting adrenaline pumping for the game) and listening to the National Anthem: big deal. The NBA doesn't look any better or worse by the players moving side to side or not. It's not like they are talking, laughing, etc. during the song. They aren't disrespecting anything. To be honest, how many of you actually pay attention to what the players are doing during the National Anthem? Do you think there is anybody in the stands going "That rotten Dwyane Wade! He's moving his body 2 inches to the left and right! Honey, get the kids! We are out of here!"
No but I could understand if some people thought he wasn't taking the National Anthem as seriously as he should be.
