I'm also questioning the signing of Drew but watch him hit 10-15 HRs drive in 50 or 60 & play flawlessly in the field.............................................or not.
Honestly I don't ever foresee Drew living up to his early career hype as any kind of Hitter, less than a low .200 range hitter. With the Glove, he could be sufficient, but NEVER with that bat, with holes in it, the size of baseballs...
Here's the thing. I don't mind a shift in mindset to get younger. What I don't like is just accumulating young project players in hope that they can be turned around.
I mean I'm just sick and tired of it. If you want to try and stockpile draft picks and young players than fine. Compiling shit and then saying but hey they're young is just ridiculous. I hope I'm proven wrong but to me as it currently stands this team is worse off than last year. Sure, some on the roster might have some improvements over last year but how many more wins does that translate to?
Vic I feel the same way, Sometime back I printed the SUBTRACTIONS & ADDITIONS that this team has pulled off since this past season ended & I wasn't alone when I said that I just don't see where we've done anything to improve this club over last years team. Someone here predicted 90+ wins for 2015. Sorry but unless Beltran, Teixeira & McCann can improve there numbers over last year, Tanaka can give us a full season & CC & Pineda can stay healthy, that it's going to be tough just to match last years win total.
To be honest though... Until the bad contracts of A-Rod, CC, Tex, Beltran, Ellsbury, & possibly McCann come off the books, I don't see what can really be done other than not continuing to repeat that same mistake...
A-Rod ($21M in 2015, $20M in 2016, & $20M in 2017) = $61M Sabithia ($23M in 2015, $25M in 2016 & $25M in 2017) = $73M Teixeira ($22.5M in 2015, $22.5M in 2015) = $45M The above pretty much equals a 500 team for the next 3 years.
2-3 years before we can expect another spending splurge from the Yanks? In 2 years Beltran and Tex (2015/2016) will be off the books and Arod after 2017? For now the Yanks are (IMO) going to give at least 3-4 young players every chance to win a spot on the 2015 team. Gregorious, Refsnyder, Pirela, Lindgren or some other kid reliever...and Warren may also be in the SP rotation. Yanks are..I think/hope doing their best to get younger while still carrying the weight of those contracts. And they are not crazy in thinking Beltran and CC are NOT washed up quite yet.
I have to agree, and I expect less games won this year, than last....! I too would love to be proven wrong. Hell, I'd love to see the Yanx win 100 games, but I don't expect that to happen at all. IN fact, I can't even find any dummy who would take the bet, they will win even 90 games, let alone 94 or more....! But then, I'd never make the bet, let alone take it.....it might be like stealing candy from a child in a Kiddy Day Care, with room full of Mothers, with nun-chucks (sp?).....or Guns....!
Sounds like you're in the majority. IMO, if the majority feels the Yankees will win a similar amount of games as last year, then they probably believe the 2015 team will be as weak offensively as last year with similar or worse pitching as last year. Could be. Then again....maybe not. We shall see.
