Hawks choked. Up 24-14 and their great D allows two TD drives. Then 2nd and goal from the 1 and they pass??? Pound it with beast mode. Full credit to the Pats for continuing to push, but my lord the Hawks blew that one.
I thought Belichek was out of his mind when he didn't call a timeout with a minute left but it worked out in his favor. That said I thought it was a great game
It was a bad call by Belichick to not use a TO there. He just got bailed out by the worst call in SB history...literally the worst. You have to run on 2nd down. If you get stopped with 20 or so seconds left you call a TO. Then maybe do a play-action on 3rd down. Then run on 4th if needed. Awful choke by the Hawks coaches.
It could also be that the Hawks, like the rest of the world, were expecting a TO from the Pats and when it didn't happen and saw their time clock tricking down they panicked. Just a theory, but it was an absolutely awful call.
Certainly could have been, but passing there is awful. No excuse for that. Now the Hawks and their staff need to live with the worst decision in SB history. Is what it is. Still had plenty of time to run, call a TO, pass on 3rd if need be, and then run on 4th if need be. Lynch would have scored on 2nd down, he just pounded for 4 yards down to the 1 on 1st down and almost scored there, but even if he was stopped you call a TO and have 14 or 15 seconds left. Plenty of time for a pass on 3rd and a run on 4th if needed.
And I agree with you 31, I think it did surprise them that the Pats did not take a TO. Maybe from that POV Belichick was very smart...messed the Hawks up...good point.
