...first he compares the intra-city teams of the Met vs Yanx...then it was Dodgers vs Angels...and today it's Giants vs A's. I'll go out on a limb and guess his next sphincter-tightening bit of writing will be Cubs vs White Sox? ...keep up the insightful and spellbinding news David... Pulitzer Prize winning stuff.
I bet he's writing about the Cubs/White Sox, right now.....his next article. i know this is long, but worth it. 59 I fill much better off, for your strong suggestion to buy the Book "Yankee Century" (Which IS Hands down the best book of all I have ever read, on the NY Highlanders to Yankees, Historical Reference worth material). Which led me to this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Era-1947-1957-Yankees-Dodgers/dp/0803278055 Another Classic great book is: http://www.amazon.com/Bums-History-Brooklyn-Dodgers-Baseball/dp/0486477355/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1423149632&sr=1-8&keywords=The Bums "The Bums" articulated best what a hardcore Intra-City insight b/t the Yanx, Giants and Bums. I highly suggest a book I got when I got Yankees Century, "The Era: 1947-1957 When the Yankees, Giants and Dodgers Ruled the World". Is a great read. "The Bums" was a classic read, revealing over and over, how hard core the NY rivalries were. Men were literally stabbing another to death, over a Produce stand in the Supermarket. Doesn't get harder than that. Plus NY still has the overall best by far, Intra-Town rivalries, and always will. NTM- a hardcore Bums fanatic, came home haggard every day from a long hard labor job, to his B&W TV. A TV dinner on a TV Stand, with cans of Beer. Who watched every Game in his Brooklyn Flat, saw the 53 Bums lose the Series, in disgust, he stood up, threw his full beer can at his TV screen. Blew The Screen out, and His Heart too. No shit, a fatal heart attack. Therein, the proof, NY Intra-Town Rivalries will always exceed any other Metropolis in eternity. NY Intra-town no doubt the best of all. With both Stengel, and Berra, went cross town to Queens. NTM-Ruth to Brooklyn. The Mets were one of the first expansion teams, to go from worst to WS Champs, in less than a decade. If one weren't in the mix, usually the other was, with exception of a few short periods. Had MLB the Wild Card system, 86 had good odds, it would be a Intra-City Mets/Yanx showdown. I lived a short hop from both Frisco and Oakland, since the A's moved in, 1967. There's never been really a big rivalry b/t them. Maybe for ratings, or attendance. Even the Loma-Prieta Earthquake, over whelmed viewing audiences, making the 89 Series, seem boring. NTM-The Giants folded early. In L.A. area, now for 45 years, the Freeway Series, has always been the last 3 games of Exhibition/ST. Most looked forward to those ST games. This was the year of best odds, for the 1st Freeway Series, had good odds it could of happened. L.A. fair weathered fans, have yet to see any cross town rivalry Series at all. But, there is really no bad blood, thus little excitement, b/t the Bums & Halos, from my Eagles Nest up here, looking down at the City of Angels. Hell, even if the Bums/Halos had a WS, the crowds would still leave after the 6th inning, by the ten 1,000s, to beat the freeway plugged artery, from what they sought to avoid, creating just what they wanted to avoid. L.A. Fair Weather Fans, worry more about getting into an auto accident, a touch n go drive on a fkd up freeway, the true test of any Preachers Faith, without swearing. Like Steve Martin's satirical Movie: LA Story, pulling out his gun from the glove box, as shooting time always begins on time, one can set their watch to it.
Another common ground: The Yanx played in Shea during The King's Re-novation. The Halos played in Chavez Ravine, when they first came into the league, if I'm not mistaken for 2 years. I can't recall any time Chicago had to play in Wrigley in lieu of Comisky, or vice versa. Same with Frisco/Oakland.... If they don't get rid of the rats, now all along the Watchtower, I mean Neighborhood, the Cubs Class Action Liability to eradicate, rats, spread throughout those pricy neighborhoods, which will sneak off, when a Major Nuke like Normandy Invasion eradication begins. Watch The Cubs Owner will be sued, will this break the Cubs bank, of re-novationg Wrigley.
The Angels played their first year in old LA Wrigley Field (61 Season) prior to moving to Chavez until the new ball park was built. You guys out there in Cali tell me what the hell goes on with the A's having such a problem moving or getting a new ball park in Crime town. Don't understand how the Giants are able to claim territorial "rights in San Jose. Shit move them (A's) back to Philly first games I ever saw were the A's at Shibe Park or Connie Mack Stadium.
The "Bums" should've never seen another WS after screwing the Brooklyn fans - basically because O'Malley began seeing too many "colored people" around the area. And stop referring to them as the "Bums"..... those were the teams who went decades without winning anything, and eating the sh!t of the NEW YORK Yankees not to mention their inter-CITY league rival Giants. The Laah Laah Land Dodgers have had it pretty dam good for the most part. O'Malley = Scumbag ...and screw the DODGERS!
Used to be a great month for golf. Tiger pulled out early again....Farmer's, not another disgruntled porn star.
...just heard about Tiger WDing...hate to hear that...sounds like his "repaired" back is acting up again.
As someone who's gone through 16 back operations, having 11 discs removed & at one point having 67 pieces of metal in my back (rods, screws etc) Tiger is going to have to take a long break from the sport & strengthen the back.
...I ruptured the disc between S1 and L5 about 15 years ago...they gave me a steroid epidural and I got lucky, it worked. I still get a "twinge" every now and then but I work out every weekday morning and I'm also VERY careful now about how and when I use my back.
...lol...I guess Shoenfield opted to compare St. Louis/Kansas City first...can't wait for the Chisox/Cubs. ...I know it's coming because my belly-button has been twitching all day...it's a sure sign.
Comparing inter city/state rivals is a nice little feature at this point. What's all the fuss about? And I've enjoyed a couple of his articles.
