I can't fault the get younger thought process right now. What I do hate is some of the decisions that got them to this point. Somebody who called Fancesa on WFAN this week had a good point. Look at the money they're spending on Drew, Capuano and Headley combined. You let Cano walk without a replacement for that. Now you're still missing a bat of that caliber and hoping aging vets have resurgent years.

...yup, makes no sense to me. Not much difference in having Drew at SS vs Gregorius...DiDi may or may not pan out, but if they were gonna sign Drew, why trade away Greene and then sign Cappy? Drew could have played SS instead, but now, even though defensively they are stronger up the middle with Drew and DiDi, both are black holes offensively.
...some of the moves seem to cancel each other out.
...as far as Sherman's "get younger", well, with the departure of Jeter, Kuroda, and Ichiro, they were pretty much guaranteed of that anyway.

Ummm......try and pay attention......It looks to me as if some of those plans have already been put in place and are some of the reasons why the Yanks could win 90 games.

    From the article:
The Yankees’ offseason checklist looked something like this:

    1. Find a shortstop — priority one.

    2. Improve the defense.

    3. Deepen the bullpen.

    4. Get younger.

    5. Avoid further risky, long-term investment.

    6. Protect the best of the farm system and add to it when possible.

    7. Create roster depth and flexibility.

    8. Put safety nets in place for the rotation.
And....the Yanks have not only retained their top prospects, they get another pick right after the first round after letting Robertson go.

I'm beginning to wonder about a couple of you guys.....seem very dense.

...you, of all people, have a lot of gall referring to others as "very dense"...I'm surprised your fingers didn't explode when you typed that.

Try and read post #6 ....I know you tend to gloss over, don't respect, and/or ignore responses and reasons which don't fit YOUR opinions and reasons.....but try and take another look.
I'll even make it easier on you to attack a part of my reasoning for going for "approx 90 wins".
    # 1 and # 2 from above:
Improved defense including SS, should be worth AT LEAST 2-3 more wins by preventing less base runners to reach base over the course of the WHOLE season.

Jeter was .....close to....dreadful in his lack of range, not to mention the errors.
Headley should provide very good defense at 3b from day one......want to argue that one? And say what you want about Drew, but he'll have more range and quickness around 2b than broken down Roberts.....and with a good possibility of having Refsnyder or Pirela contributing, the offense should/ could also improve significantly from 2b. Sure, Yanks could be "gambling" at 2b - but according to your logic, then we'll NEVER infuse young players into the lineup.

And Lindgren and Severino are very close by to help the P Staff.
Warren may also be a YOUNG pitching candidate for the SP.

#1 Finding a shortstop & finding a proven productive shortstop is two different things. I mean signing Bucky Dent would have been FINDING a shortstop.

#2 Improve the defense, I'll give you that one.

#3 Signing a half dozen arms for the bullpen only made it crowded not necessarily deeper. That's yet to be seen.

#4 Getting younger doesn't ALWAYS mean getting better. Again its a wait & see.

#5 That we've done but at this time we don't know at what cost.

#6 Greene is someone who wasn't to far from once being a farm hand so I'm not so sure what we actually protected.

#7 This you'll have to explain.

    #8 ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Maybe you need some corrective lenses of your own....or perhaps just remove the blindfold?

    Regarding Cano and Blowhard Fatcessa-
Headley is signed for 4 yrs 52 Mil,
Capuano and Drew one year each for 5 mil.

According to my math, that's a total of 62 mil with 10 of those millions coming off the books after this year. How much was Cano asking for, and for how long? lol

At an early Yankee Spring Training game some wag will sit outside Steinbrenner Field serenading the fans passing by with this old John Conlee tune,

These rose color glasses, that I'm looking through,
Show only the beauty, but they hide all the truths.

Barring some unexpected miracles I think we Yankee Fans are in for another harsh season.

^^^yup...no way I can be as optimistic about this year's team as I was about last year's team at this time. The additions of Tanaka, Ellsbury, McCann, and Beltran had me feeling pretty good about the 2014 season.
