I'm in the middle of filling up a U-Haul truck, and moving from out of this Desert Boondocks area, of harsh winds, sand storms, 60mph winds, the deadliest venomous snake in America, (the Mojave Mojave Green, not the same as the AZ Mojave Green), this one resides only in the Mojave Desert. Scorpions, and every other critter, Coyotes, Saquatches, et al. I will be down for about a week, the worst scenario would be down for 2 weeks. In the process of turning off our Broadband, to Time Warner Cable, the Evil Empire....Best case scenario could be: I could be back in or by Wednesday at the best, tho' unlikely. CYA all soon my Yankee Band of Brothers........!!!
Since you'll have a lot of catching up to do when you return I'm predicting now that you'll have at least 20 posts in a 3 minute span. Hurry back Rob.
...I hate moving about as much as I hate painting. ...the only good thing about moving is that you stumble upon stuff that you thought you lost years ago.
Thanks guys, I thought my I-Net was getting turned off this morning right away. I forgot this IS Sunday, so early am, tomorrow, a week or more or less of NO I-Net, I'll have to start smoking again, to handle the withdrawals.... I hired a crew of 4 guys, and was astounded how fast, they emptied 90% of this house, in short time. Tomorrow comes the hard part, moving all the furniture and boxes, up a tri-level home, those stairs are going to kill me. Just assisting these movers by carrying one to many heavy boxes, has me feeling broken in half. I'm walking like an old man, who's head only faces the ground. I've already fkd up, my back of metal, by lifting a couple boxes of heavy stuff. Kim, like my Mom only stands back shakes her head, in disbelief, as she's worn out of warning me to not do this or that. Tomorrow, and the days to come, I'll be ONLY being a traffic cop for the movers, and I'm not picking up anything heavier than a beer bottle. Keeping up a big house, at this age, has become impossible, plus the horrid 50 mph constant desert winds, with dirt in the air, make this Desert Valley as bad of Air Quality as LAX, no shit. To far away from any & everything, I had to plan any trip to town like a Mission, forget one thing, and I'd be fkd. We bought a 3 story Town house, on the Northern Foothills of the San Gabriels, about 45 miles south of our old home. Located in b/t Lancaster/Palmdale, and Victorville. We will get some dusting of snow, yearly, have less hot of Summers, with access to the Peach, Plum, Pluot, Almond, Cherry, and Apple Orchards....looking forward to it. This may be our last retirement home, tho' we were originally going to head to Coos Bay Oregon, maybe somewhere in years down the road, perhaps.... NTM- the foothill soil, is some of the riches soil, I've seen in California, less Napa Valley, San Joaquin & a few other Wine/Grape farms. Now I can go back to having my Garden every year. (the old place was just to fkng hot, to grow a damned thing at all. IF whatever I planted took root, and hold, beginning to yield flowers, or tomatoes, the effing ground squirrel chipmunks, once stripped a 10 foot long X 4 feet high, Morning Glory bush, down in only a ocuple of hours, when I wasn't at home. I returned, and could NOT even find the roots where I planted that Ivy like bush. Thanks Guys, and I hope to see you all sooner than latter.
We sold our 140 acres, up in the private Buttes, overlooking the South (Black Hole Program area of EAFB), and down onto the Dry Lake Beds, where we've seen numerous landings of those Orbiter Vehicles. Tho' I could of sat right up close on the Base, since I worked on the things. Nearest neighbor was 4.9 miles away. I could play my music so loud, I could hear it clear as day, while riding my tractor outside, (well kinda, a bit of an exaggeration). I only blew out 2 windows in 15 years in that home. Blame it on bad tinsel strength of glass. Nearest neighbor is 1.2 miles West, but instead of 10 shades of beige dirt, we've now got 20 acres of heavily forested Pine Tree, Blue Spruce, and my favorite sweet aroma, Jeffrey Pine Trees, a couple of Oak Tress, and the owner thought alot like I do, as far as he already has a 37 foot series of Jasmine vines, on the wrap around porch on one level, and the balcony on the top level. Damn Jasmine vines, Morning Glory Vines, Roses, and Lilac trees placed strategically at the Master Bedroom, with Honeysuckle on the other side, to me is a taste of Heaven. Steve: aka "Chief Caveman, and Sole Keeper of Thor's Hammer." How is Hammerette doing? Your boys and Heather as well??? I do hope always well.
If I flew a old slow Cessna 172/182. I'd have to get up to 10,500 feet in elevation, tho' we will be living at 5,300 feet, withing a short ten minute 120 mph span, I'd be looking right down on the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, directly south of us, with nothing but Mt. Baldy in B/T the two. Baldy is the one tallest Mt. the Camera's often show, (since it remains snow capped longer). during Rose Bowl games....! NTM, we'd also be looking down on a Rose Parade, IF, site seer AC were allowed Open Air-Space....! I'm thrilled to be getting Kim and Our Son, out of this god awful harsh desert, to a more cleaner, & much more serene a sight to live in. Such visceral, or a treat for all senses, is amazing how it can change one's outlook on life.... The Natural Wildlife Habitat surrounding our new area, is loaded with: Wild- Wolf Packs Black Bears Red Fox CA Cougars Red Tail, Brown Speckle Breasted hearty Hawks, Owls Squirrels Ferrets Golden Eagles, (other than the Wolves, my 2nd favorite critter in this neck of woods. Snakes are not to much a problem, if the area is kept up ie, no wood piles, staying in one place too long, where they like to nest. NO more Ravens either. The areas is as full of Golden Eagles, as our last place was of vulture Ravens.
Cool Hammerette is doing well! My boys had a drop-in at the YMCA to see where they place for swim lessons, so that'll happen soon... Soccer sign ups are soon as well... Boys both chose soccer over baseball... Kinda sad, but kinda expected... Heather is doing well... My feet are killing me though... Hurts to stand, walk, or anything for that matter
