I guess he passed the torch to John Oliver. He's doing a good/great job so far. Once a week isn't enough, though. Not liking Larry Wilmore's show so far. It will probably improve. He celebrates his own jokes which aren't that good to begin with. His panel segments are too brief with too many guests. No time to discuss anything in detail like Politically Incorrect used to and Real Time does now. TDS will probably continue. Of the people there I think I like Aasif Mandvi the best.
There's no thread about Brian Williams. I don't care if he keeps his job or not. He was the clear best replacement for Brokaw as the NBC anchor. He came from MSNBC when they had actual news reporters and moved to NBC. The last guy to really get busted like he was is Rather. And some people on the left still think he's not full of shit. Go figure.
Williams, if he is fired or if he comes to some kind of amicable separation with NBC, could emerge as an actual candidate to take over TDS. He wanted The Tonight Show and is interested in comedy.
He thinks he is funny. He really did want to host The Tonight Show. And he has been a frequent guest on TDS and other late night programs. I don't watch Jimmy Fallon but I think he did some rapping on that show once or a few times. He wouldn't be my preference.
Yeah. “Brian wants to be a late-night comedian,” one former colleague explained. “He traded on being Nightly News anchorman-war-reporter to ingratiate himself with Jimmy, Lorne Michaels, and Jon Stewart.”
I'm pretty sure Williams' problem was braggadocio, though you might come to the conclusion he was trying to make bad situations look worse for partisan reasons. I'm not sure why NBC suspended him. They really should have just fired him in the name of journalistic integrity.
Given that Late Night, The Tonight Show (twice), The Late Late Show, and The Colbert Report (The Nightly Show) have all had replacement hosts that were men, I wonder if CC will think about having Sam Bee take over TDS just for some variety?
I'm not stumping for him. I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if his name is mentioned. Especially with Stewart leaving just before the elections.
