+ Gregorious. When the alternative was Brendan Ryan it's a pickup to be hopeful about.

+ Eovoldi. Not the big name and was through a trade but maybe Rothschild can work with the raw young fireballer. McCarthy came over from AZ with a 5+ ERA.

Sorry but, from the outset of signing Hanley there was talk of moving Hanley to LF partly because of his athletisim and also a fellow named Xander Boegarts....you may have heard of him....he's one of their more highly regarded young players who HAPPENS TO PLAY SS , and oh by the way....they've already won a WS with him.....
.....but don't listen to me....I'll include this statement after they signed him.

If anyone doubts the ifs and realities that this team faces go on line and check the availability of seats available at Steinbrenner Field. As long as I've been in this area ( 2002 until present) ST tickets went like hotcakes. I just ran a check and there are still plenty of seats available. As I view this years team I see ifs in the starting staff, the improved defense to the left is offset by doubt on the right Drew & Tex. Beltran in right defensively?? damn I wish they'd have kept Ichiro, Ellsbury and Gardner are fine in the outfield but I wish Gardner would run bases instead of standing on them. Pen should be fine, catching is in good hands but I hope Mac hits better ditto Beltran. Boston & Toronto have improved, not sure how I'd think of Baltimore still good but we'll see. And we must remember that CC wets his pants when he sees Boston or Tampa uniforms. In addition I believe that the Eastern Division is not the strongest AL Division. And while other teams have their problems I still don't believe that the Yankees have addressed theirs in a manner that we fans have come to expect. On the first day of ST I enter year number 60 as a fan, I don't think I'll be singing "It was a very good year this season unless a lot of manna falls from heaven.

...but if they were gonna sign Drew anyway, why not let Drew play SS and keep Greene in the rotation? I hope DiDi improves but he's got a long way to go. And now it looks like we have Drew and DiDi to be part of the new "black hole" on offense.
...they could have also forgone Eovaldi and kept Prado and Phelps.

...well said. But I do think that early on the ARod circus should give ST tickets an initial spike...but not for long.

I'm not going to profess to understanding the game plan with the Yanks but I can see the upside being greater for both DiDi and Eovaldi. Phelps was what he was but I liked Prado. It's definitely different to see the Yanks pushing for some youth and not making a big splash in free agency. I don't mind them not making the big splash and handcuffing themselves with the back end of the monster contracts but signing Drew confused me. Make some pseudo-youth movement and go in to spring training with a Refsnyder/Pirella duel and I buy into it a little easier.

Ichiro should have always been nothing more than a 4th outfielder here. I wish him well, love Ichiro.

It's really tough to watch Gardner on the bases, and it doesn't appear that a season of watching Ellsbury made any difference. So, does Girardi actually shift the lineup around this year now that he doesn't have to cater to Jeter's farewell tour? I don't want to see Gardner just penciled in to leadoff because that's what his book says.

...yup, that's why I would have liked to have kept Prado. He can play anywhere pretty much which would give them more flexibility. And as far as 4th OFers go, for the money Ichiro signed for, I would have preferred him.
...gotta believe with the health concerns for the pitching staff, we're gonna regret not having Greene/Phelps before this year is over.

...yup...Gardner strikes out way too much for a leadoff guy... I'd prefer Ellsbury.

Drew is an insurance policy for Gregorius, Refsnyder (2b)and/or Pirela.
Stop being a knee-jerk attack dog for your master and pay attention.

And I can only imagine the kind of tap dancing you'll do if your so-called insurance policy Drew is your opening day 2nd baseman.

You really seem to be under the delusion that everyone on this board is anti-Yankee & you're the only one hoping that the team succeeds despite all the teams question marks, NEWSFLASH! theirs not a person on this board that wouldn't like to see the Yankees win 90 games or 95 games. You kidding me, we'd fucking love it.

Here's a thought, climb down of that high horse you've placed yourself on, join the rest of us mortals and take the blinders off & say..........

" I know there's a lot of question marks on this team & I know a lot depends on our starting pitchers staying healthy, and for Tex & Beltran to try & regain some of there old form but I honestly believe that if all goes the way I HOPE it will, this team SHOULD be able to win as many as 90 games. "

Try it, it's really not that hard.

...^^^ just now saw this. Pretty pathetic actually. His obtuse reasoning is that people who do not share his view as far as the the Yanx" win total this year are simply "weird pessimists"...and anyone who agrees with something I say, can't possibly think for themselves, and therefore are "puppets"....or better yet, now they are referred to as my "knee jerk attack dogs".

    ...like I said, pretty pathetic.

I know there's a lot of question marks on this team INCLUDING just about the rest of the divisional teams and to the dismay of THE MAJORITY of the board I happen to think more instead of less of the question marks will be answered in the positive.

Here's a thought, climb down off that high horse you've placed yourself on.

I know there's a lot of question marks on this team & I know a lot depends on our starting pitchers staying healthy, and I do expect better production from DH,RF,1B as I've said numerous times?
There were a couple of links I've cited supplied by a poster (Fangraphs, Pecota) which both predict Baltimore to finish in last place with 78 wins and Boston winning 88 games which gives them more wins than THE MAJORITY of the board thinks the Yanks will have. Nobody seemed to have a problem or question THAT.
Maybe, just maybe some of YOU should get off your high horse and stop ridiculing me for defending and giving MY reasons for picking the Yanks to win APPROX 90 games.

Sure I could be wrong....and so can "you".... and guess what?
The world will still be turning and the sun will come out.

The pitching staff should take care of itself because I think the talent is there enough to approximate last year's numbers and along with the IMPROVED offense and defense should translate into 5 or more wins than last year.....and make no mistake, many of those losses were a result of an anemic offense including that stretch of games starting late August last year when they lost 10 games scoring 2 or less runs.

Any comments on that *FACT.....let me guess, you're crystal ball says most of the Yankee pitchers will either be injured, or suck. What else can you say.

And you still didn't comment on your own links predicting Baltimore finishing in last place and Boston winning more games than the Yanks?
Now, stop being a - with convenient amnesia and speak up so we can hold you to your very knowledgeable picks regarding those teams.

Edited: Excessive flaming and rude conduct towards other posters.
