Pau's low post game is/was like one of the best ever. If Leonard was even half that with his current skill set he would be an all star and out center for the next decade.

Ever think you'd actually be glad we passed on Steven Adams and signed Meyers? Yeah, me neither..

I didn't really think about Pau. But yes that is the way it is looking.

Stevens stats aren't nearly as good as one would think.

Their per 36's are similar (Meyers more points & boards, Adams more blocks), but Leonard shoots better (if you incorporate 3's), and has a significantly better ORtg, and a slightly better DRtg.

Plus, his PER is better too (15.6 vs 13.7), and his FT% is significantly better (90% vs 52%).

I think at this point, both are good for their teams, and since Leonard is on the Blazers I'm happy they re-signed him and didn't draft Adams.

Meyers's per 36's have blown by Rolo's and are nearly as good Kaman's (though Kaman's real per 36's would be much worse than his projected because he's old and busted).

Meyers just isn't the same type of player as Pau. Pau had a much better feel for the game when he was young because he started playing the position so much earlier than Leonard. His post game was far more advanced. And although Meyers is a pretty good passer, Pau is exceptional.

Leonard is more athletic and a better outside shooter though. His potential is off the charts if he keeps improving like this.
I admit I did not want to draft him, but I have to give Neil some credit here, he saw something the rest of us did not. The key like other young players is who do you play him with? He fits with Portland as LA's back up, but can he play with LA? I doubt it. Right now he is a stretch 4, but who knows where he will be in another 2 -3 years. He might keep proving us wrong.

One huge comparison I see with him and Adams is that they both looked lost at first, and greatly improved over time after being forced into action. Funny how that works.......

He's got great hands. I think it was the PHX game where he caught 2 or 3 passes running full speed, and dunked before his momentum carried him past the hoop.

    Apples to oranges.

Leonard is more like Donyell Marshall.

    Adams is like Robin Lopez.

Think Adams is easily more impactful at the moment, and he's younger than Leonard.

What!! He must mean the slow Blazer Shawn Kemp, not the superstar Sonic Shawn Kemp.

Actually, I think one of the best comparisons for Biebs is Raef Lafrentz ... who was actually a heck of a good player.

Rainman wasn't so young as a Blazer so there's that...Stotts having coached Kemp with the Sonics...I'm sure he made the comparison from coaching both guys. As long as Meyers avoids the nose candy and paternity suits, he'll be ok

    This is reaching.
Pau is one of the most gifted C/PF to ever play in the NBA.
If Pau was on a team that was built around him... He would have been considered a top5 PF to ever play.
However he was on Memphis.... then traded... then misused... then told by a shitty coach he's done...
Pau's only limitation was defensively. Which with his body type he's not terrible in that area either.

I don't think Nards will ever be close to Pau. The only thing he's better than Pau at is stand still shooting.
People don't give Pau enough credit for how talented he is... Or for how gifted he was.

Gasol was the focal point of Memphis for like 6 years. Sure Dantoni misused him, but I don't agree that Gasol never reached his full potential. You can't be considered top 5 all time at your position if you aren't a two way player IMO. Gasol was and is a great player but Leonard has the potential to get to his level and I dont believe it's reaching. It's crazy that were even talking about this. Shows you his development. His potential offensively has no limits IMO.

I think Leonards ceiling right now is a bit in limbo. On one hand he's showing skills like many other Stretch 4 or 5's who camp and hit 3's like Lafrenz or Hawes, put there is a difference in that he has much greater athleticism than those guys. He also is a good passer. So while his game right now kind of looks like those guys I think he physically has abilities to be much more. His Athleticism is more like a DeAndre Jordan, but he can shoot and pass and dribble a bit.

Comparing him to Gasol is probably more accurate, though Gasol came to the league seasoned while Meyers is raw. Meyers is just now starting to come in to his own feel for the game yet for the season at Per36 he is at 13.6pts and 10.5reb. Gasol at the same age (mind you starting on a shitty team) was at 19pts and 8.8reb. Compare the FG% too Meyers .546fg and .4503pt. Gasol was at .510fg and .1003pt. The Assists and Scoring are pretty significant at this point.

Now I am not saying Meyers will become a Gasol level player, but I think he has more upside to be a Gasol type player than an Okur type player.

Lets throw Offensive rating and Defensive rating per 100 possessions in there too.... Meyers 125 and 101 Gasol at 22yo 110 and 106.

No obviously the stats aren't 100% accurate due to one being a starter and the other being a reserve.
