I think Mateo is a ways off from making it to the majors. And he's not exactly solid with the glove at short. But he's young. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=mateo-000jor
...I guess they'll give DiDi a shot first and if he flops maybe Moncada at SS next year if the Yanx are lucky enough to get him...but then again, from what I've read most "experts" project him as being more of a 3Bman or 2Bman that a SS on the ML level.
I heard the same thing which kind of locks him out with Headley signed for 3rd & a kid named Rhysnyder waiting for 2nd base.
...all things considered, with the way the roster is currently set up, I'd rather have kept Prado and have him at 3B or 2B or as a 4th OFer. Or considering what he signed for, I would have like to have kept Ichiro. ...I'd also rather have kept Greene. I say this because once they dealt him and did not resign McCarthy, I was sure they'd sign of of the "big 3" FA pitchers. ...I give the Steins and Cashman a C- this off season.
I hear ya about the glove, but he's not exactly a butcher with the glove. He's a good one. http://pinstripepundits.com/2015/02/prospect-profiles-jorge-mateo.html#sthash.ZM05nvQ1.dpbs
...yeah, there was a time when SSs were lucky if they hit .250 and hit 2-3 HRs a year and were important because of their defense...my how things have changed. ...but yeah, if Mateo pans out, great. But whoever it is, if they can be anywhere near the player Jeter was, I'll feel lucky. Sure, Jeter's was not the best SS ever but he wasn't a butcher either. Give me a SS who can hit .300, steal bases, and hit 15 or so HRs, and I'll forgive them if they're not a defensive whiz.
I said Yanks and Dodgers but I want it to be the Yankees really bad. This whole off season has been a bust so signing Moncada will help.
I am always around just been busier than usual and hurt my back as well so just more issues to deal with.
Get better Jill we're going to need you healthy & on board for the new season. Perhaps A-Rods doctor could give you something.
