Yes, but was there a #1 required too, or was it just for Rudy. Details often don't get into articles about proposed trades. T minus 29 hours in counting. Nitrous oxide now loading. Spectators are being cleared from the pad.
The fact that we know about the offer and it didn't happen, means Denver refused the offer and wants more.
Portland was supposedly holding out for more from NY, though IIRC they were wanting a potential lotto pick for Rudy.
TRob + Barton + Pick is exactly what I expected. Other than perhaps swapping out Barton for Claver, or throwing in cash, they can take it or leave it. I doubt Olshey pays more. Yes, the players who are likely gone after this season represent 'cap space', but what are we saving it for? I thought the purpose of cap space was to acquire a player. Last I checked, Chandler and Afflalo are players. Why wait? Olshey isn't going to make a trade he doesn't like, just to make a trade.
Simpler solution... Afflolo will be cheaper due to him maybe being a rental till the end of the season. Trade for Afflolo then sign Prince. Badboom bada bing huge upgrade off the bench.
It still seems like they are holding out for the 1st round pick even for Afflalo, which means it really is not that much cheaper.
Afflalo apparently has the same agent as CJ and they both play SG, so the thought is that Afflalo's agent wouldn't have him re-sign with the Blazers. Chandler plays SF and has a team option for another year, hence the interest in Chandler. Chandler plays D and multiple positions. If we don't get Chandler, we're going after Prince.
Afflalo plays D can play SG/SF and guards multiple positions as well as being a better shooter. Afflalo/CJ having the same agent is kind of overblown imo especially when Afflalo has a player option for next year which people expect him to use but why would he use it this year when next year is when the giant 25+ million cap increase happens and all contracts people sign after that will be significantly increased. Seems like Afflalo would potentially be leaving money on the table to use his player option.
This season, Afflalo is shooting the same as Chandler. Chandler is much better defensively, and as BNM posted, Chandler's net rating is much better than Afflalo. If you score 10 points, but give up 10 points, then what's the point?
Afflalo isnt having the greatest year shooting but over his career he has been a better shooter and defender then Chandler. Afflalo is only 29 so he hasnt fallen off a cliff because of age. If i recall correctly CBS's Denver reporter talkes about Afflalo also spending a lot of time defending PGs because Lawson isnt great at it and there are a hell of a lot better PGs then SFs in this league so if Afflalo is spending his nights guarding whoever is better the PG or SG then of course his net is going to be bad especially when compared to an above average player in a spot that after you take out the super stars who play it then the talent pool dries up fast.
