Not sure I totally agree with your post B4E but I do wonder like a lot people why Crabbe isnt playing. There has to be more to that story
You make a trade because things change drastically in the nba, and if you have a legit title chance and a small move that helps that goal, you take that chance instead of perpetually looking a year away, a year away.
how in the heck can you say Chandler isn't much better than Crabbe? that is simply a crock of you know what
No, I disagree with that. you don't make moves that don't make sense just because you're in contention, you stick with the path that got you to this place, you don't blow up the team, send away two very talented young players for someone who's not a game changer (or a "needle mover") just because you may be in contention right now, that's not a good reason.
Because Will and T-Rob are producing? T-rob got his chance last year. Now in practice he must be fucking up and that's not why he's getting any burn. But since you have access to the training facility you know they are getting shafted... Everybody get ready to update their sigs....
All these other teams are loading up in the west. Our bench is simply outgunned. We already have a ton of youth and potential in CJ, Meyers, and Crabbe. At some point you have to pick the horse you're going to back. We can't develop three guards. We can't develop two young power forwards. LA is going to play 36ish minutes per game. Rolo is going to play 30ish minutes per game. There are only so many minutes and every game counts. That's ultimately why Jermaine O'Neal was traded. I'm not saying Robinson is another Jermaine, but similar to Jermaine he needs minutes to develop. That simply won't happen here.
But you do make moves that do make sense. Trading two end of bench players you have no intention of keeping around after the season for a huge improvement to the bench is a smart move. It's hardly blowing the team up, and your definition of very talented differs greatly from probably most anyone
TRob and Will don't appear to be a significant part of "the future", so trading them certainly wouldn't qualify as mortgaging it. As it is, they're below average and replaceable. The fact that we didn't pick up TRob's extension essentially made it a foregone conclusion that he'll be gone after this summer: if he's worth more than $4.5M, we won't be able to match higher offers; if he's not worth $4.5M, then we probably don't need him. As for the two of them and the pick being worth more than Wilson Chandler, the current trade market suggests otherwise. Assets are only worth what they can be turned into. If they stay here, they won't be turned into anything because (as you said) there's no time available for them to contribute (because they're certainly not playing in front of CJ and Nards). If Olshey can't get a better deal for them than Chandler, I have to assume that it's because other teams aren't willing to give anything better than Chandler. I'm not arrogant enough to think that I would be able to do Olshey's job better than he can. Rants like yours suggest that you are arrogant enough to think that. Perhaps some self-evaluation is in order.
You say we're deep like it's a negative but that's why I'm telling you Stotts isn't doing his job. All these players: Crabbe, Barton, Claver, T-Rob, they're all very good players. Every one of them can give you a different advantage in specific game situations, last year against the Spurs that big man I don't even remember his name was a big reason they beat us in game 1 and he was like their 11th or 12 player. All of the above mentioned players are also young, they are also used to not getting tons of minutes and if given at least a decent chance could be as effective as Meyers or CJ like they already proved to be. A good coach would make this our advantage, if he juggled the lineups more freely and have these players ready to play we'd be that much better. You want a consolidation move and Chandler is a solid player, I'm not saying he isn't, but so is Crabbe, the only difference is that Chandler is a veteran that Stotts would have no choice but to play him therefore supposedly stabilizing our bench. If you really trust Stotts and his instincts you don't make this move.
your perception of reality of what those players are capable of is very simply way different than mine and many members of this forum, perhaps we should leave it at that
And me believing I could do a better job than Stotts is almost a fact IMO. I do trust Olshey other than that Huge mistake not extending T-Rob but if he makes such a trade I would be 100% sure I'm smarter than him as well. You say I'm arrogant but I believe in myself and believe my eyes, I'm also been watching this team for more than 15 years. I'm not gonna surrender to someone like Stotts surely being smarter than me because... because what?
You must not have been paying attention this season. Stotts has juggled the lineups quite a bit this year. Mostly due to injury, of course, but even in injury situations, he has been quite creative in deciding who to start (ie, Crabbe starting in place of Batum, or Leonard/Freeland starting before Kaman did). Our bench has seen significant development already this season specifically as a result of that. Wright is also a veteran, and Stotts absolutely has a choice in regard to whether to play him, and more often than not chooses not to. The notion that a trade for Chandler is a negative referendum on Stotts' coaching abilities is ludicrous.
You've been watching this team for 15 years. Stotts has been playing and coaching at a professional level for over 30. I'm going to give his experience a slight edge over yours.
No, but If I'm able to influence keeping Barton and T-Rob instead of trading them for Wilson Chandler I may have done more for this team than he did, and that's without having the head coaching position.
