Took the boys (almost 5 & 7) out skiing with my dad so we could have 1 on 1 instructional time with them today... Spent a good 7 hours at the ski resort, 5 or so out on the mountain... An entire 5+ hours though on the bunny slopes though is A LOT more work & A LOT more exhausting then it sounds... I am beat & need to take a bath in a concoction of bengay, icy hot, tiger balm, & capzasin... Holy crap am I already sore from lifting them up all day... BUT... They had fun, and it's all worth it!
Rick has seen & commented on Facebook... Don't feel like posting again, but pm me if you want to see them
Steve'o do the Poconos have any ski resorts, or did you head somewhere else. I got a feeling you may of gone to the Poconos. I've been to Fredicksburg, and a few other parts of PA. but only my wife and sons got to go fishing in the Poconos, thus I have no idear what kind of skiing you have up there. The Catskills, any good skiing their or Vermont....? I honestly don't have a clue.....on this one. but sounds very interesting, teaching one's kids these sports are PRICELESS....! good going, your one helluva good Father, and I hope you know that....! Don't let anyone tell ya' otherwise.....
The Poconos do have a number of ski resorts (Camelback, Shawnee, Blue Mountain, & others) (skied the 1st two) however we didn't go that far north.... We went to a place closer to home. I've skied Gore Mountain in Upstate NY, a place or two in NH, Killington in VT, not to mention the Hidden Valley/Great Gorge ski area in NJ. And others as well... This place was smaller though, but great... I do fish the Poconos often though...
I'd love to see the Pocono's..... the closest I ever got was Gettysburg, in 69. I sent my Wife and 3 Son's to see her Dad in Jersey in June of 91. (While I stayed home and worked to pay for their Vacation)....Tho' the boys and Kim got to see 2 Yanx games, while spening a week in the Poconos fishing. They missed out on a wonder that still dazzles the hell out of me. That was, the Mount Pinataubo eruption, that turned the atmosphere and sky on the West Coast, into a Golden Hue, I have only seen then, and never since. 3 days of intense Golden Glow. One could look at the Sun, without it hurting their eyes, due to that much ash. A Site one only see's once in a lifetime....Altho' still, I'd of rather seen those 2 back to back Yanx From Wiki- The effects of the eruption were felt worldwide. It ejected roughly 10,000,000,000 tonnes (1.1×1010 short tons) or 10 km3 (2.4 cu mi) of magma, and 20,000,000 tonnes (22,000,000 short tons) SO 2, bringing vast quantities of minerals and metals to the surface environment. It injected more particulate into the stratosphere than any eruption since Krakotoa in 1883. Over the following months, the aerosols formed a global layer of sulfuric acid haze. Global temperatures dropped by about 0.5 °C (0.9 °F) in the years 1991-93, and ozone depletion temporarily increased substantially.
'91 Yanks....you really didn't miss much. Now if it had been the 2nd half of the season, then maybe seeing Bernie break into the show because Roberto Kelly was injured.... Summer of '91 is special to me, that's when I made the pilgrimage west....
What month was it Tom, when you made your pilgrimage? Any chance it was July 15th or prior, in other words did you see the Golden air Pinataubo, once in a life sighting of heavy laden ash in the ozone, everything looked gold and glowing....strangest air I've ever seen, or ever will...
The best thing I remember about 1991 is that I got divorced. But hey I should have known that marriage wasn't going to work out because, well, I was a Gemini & she was a BITCH!
I've spent significant time in San Diego, brief time in Colorado, time in Arkansas, significant time in Upstate NY, North Jersey, & the Poconos... Love the Poconos & Upstate NY..... Couldn't live in southern California nor Arkansas... Not enough change in seasons nor the presence of the beautiful white stuff I love so much! Great fishing in both the Poconos & Upstate NY as well!
I stayed on Mission Beach (I want to say Montgomery Ave or Montgomery Dr, but not entirely positive of the street name) the entire summer of '99 & two other times I went out for work (La Jolla site) & stayed in a hotel not far for a tad less than a week each time.
