Anybody noticed that Olshey approaches player transactions the exact opposite as San Antonio policy. Olshey gambles draft picks on veteran players. While he doesn't always do this, his pickups of Rolo, Thomas Robinson and now Affalo, have been significant. San Antonio ' s policy is to develop new talent to contribute. How they draft successfully "one and dones' is amazing. I think Olshey's system is more practical. What do you think? Dumb post or good question?

    10/10 would read again

In all seriousness I think San Antonio is off so well because of who there coach is. I know that is the "easy way" out to answer this but I think it is the most truth. Currently we have a coach who generally has a short leash with new/younger players and doesn't seem to give them much of a chance if they play bad. If we recall Patty Mills didn't look like much for us and maybe that was thanks to Nate McMillan not knowing what to do as a coach, but in San Antonio he is a legit NBA player now and really helps contribute. Coaching goes along way with how a philosophy is instilled, I think.

Laker radio talk show hosts excited we got Afflola. They want Wes this summer and think it will help them get him. Their reasoning is we now might not offer Wes a huge contract......and the Lakers could. .........

I want to keep both. I think Neil does too.

He seems to shoot best from the side of the court away from where Aldridge likes to camp out; I think that's good!

depends on whether a few dumb teams with a ton of capspace make a ridiculous offer (15 mil per?) to Wes and he takes it, do't think we match "if" that happens

I knew a San Antonio fan would answer this post first. I am a Jets fan and whenever I post something mentioning the Patriots on the net, one of the cheaters defends Brady and Belichick. But I have nothing but respect for the Spurs franchise.

I don't care how athletic he is, no way he can play a little point guard.

An extremely large point guard, sure, but little? Not. Gonna. Happen.

Most of their guys weren't drafted by them though.

    Patty Mills - Portland
    Danny Green - Sacramento
    Jeff Ayres - Portland
    Marco Belinelli - Golden State
    Boris Diaw - Atlanta

Obviously they drafted Parker, Duncan, Ginobili, and Leonard though.

The Blazers can win a title with Stott coaching. He has two things a winning coach needs. Stott has a passion for the game and he knows what works and what doesnt. The most important thing in basketball is passion. Ask any college coach that and he will agree.

I didn't say that most of their players were drafted. I said that they have a policy of developing players they draft. They very successfully use their draft picks. The Blazers have traded a number of their draft picks away since Olshey became GM of the Blazers.

Technically Leonard was drafted by Indiana and traded for Goerge Hill on draft day.

Maybe historically, but by and large, most of their rotation players were not drafted by San Antonio. Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili were all drafted over a decade ago. If anything, I think they're good at picking up guys on the cheap through trade or free agency. Neil has shown a very similar knack for picking up guys on the cheap.

Olshey has been a great GM since he was hired. I felt the same way when Dana Altman was hired at UO. I was skeptical but it turned out to be the right hire.

    Harden
    Thompson/Wes
    Ellis/Beal.

Honestly with as poor as the 2guard spot is in todays NBA in terms of talent. Wes is worth the max.
There was a thread a few weeks ago pointing out how good Wes actually is. That he's comparable w/ Thompson. Thompson just got a max deal. Wes will too.

But the 5 I have listed are prolly worth the max. At the very least the first three.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but Afflalo gives us another person we're not afraid of getting fouled. With Robinson, we were hoping for he'd make 1 out of 2 shots (at best). Now with Afflalo, it should be almost 2 points each time.

With the way stotts has been using his bench, I wouldn't dismiss Gee just yet. I think he might get some defensive assignments on certain players.

Our lowest FT% shooter is Kaman and he shoots .683 that's truly an amazing weapon, good observation.
