Even with the penalty it's ridiculous that a team of their resources loses out over a few million bucks. Then over spends on guys like Headley.

I wish the Yanks got this kid mainly because he's a top prospect and it's not my money, however I'm not furious that they set their offer and stuck with it, like they did with Cano.

I know that now that the Red Sox have him he's a can't miss and everything written about him will be rosy but this article just before he was signed uncovers some flaws. read it while ESPN keeps it up:
    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12322027/is-prized-cuban-prospect-yoan-moncada-next-abreu

Reading about how awesome he is is easy and we have the next few years to do it all but what I also read is the kid is a prospect - a can't miss even. We know those can't miss guys (see Hughes, Montero…). He's a prospect with choppy movement in the field who will either be moved to 2B or even the outfield. He's a prospect who is described as arrogant and might not bring it everyday. A prospect who needs a few years of development after hitting .277 in the top Cuban league. He needs to learn to hit a breaking ball and learn the strike zone. Maybe I'm just jealous but if the Yanks signed him (for $60+M; further ruining baseball) I'm sure those flaws would be highlighted on ESPN and here.

...understood. Of course he's a gamble. But the point is that the Steins were willing to "gamble" $27 Mil on Moncada, what's another $4 Mil.

...as far as Cano, the Yanx missed out on Moncada by $4 Mil ...they missed out on Canp by $125 Mil. And talk about a "gamble", Cano's contract with Seattle was insane. He'll be 33 this year and will be 36 1/2 way through his 10 year deal...no way Seattle doesn't eventually end up regretting that deal.

Yeah, I know the Cano/Moncada money is not comparable, just pointing out the principal.

With the 100% tax on the deal, $60+M for Moncada is a decent sized gamble. But if I'm the Yanks I make it since they don't have that spending freedom again for a few years.

...true, plus if they're still in the hunt by the AS break maybe they make a trade or 2...and next year's FA class isn't bad...and who knows, maybe we see Severino, Judge, and Lindgren by then.

...the other thing I have not heard addressed about the flood of Cuban players is that even with all the hype, sooner or later one is gonna be a bust....the other thing is if/when one of them tests positive for PEDs?

I thought I've already said they didn't jump through any hoops signing any big free agent pitchers and are spending little on their gamble at SS and one or two of Refsnyder and or Pirela are minimal costs and the switch from cervelli to john Ryan saves money and they think he's ready now. My opinion, what the heck is so wrong waiting on expecting something from current high priced players....TeX is a full yr removed from the wrist surgery, McCann already has yr under his belt, Gardner can certainly do better..I believe the pitching staff has gotten younger including the RP,
..of course this doesn't necessary make it better but it's a start. And it is their PLAN.....like it or not.

Let's see how things shake out.

You said,"They didn't jump through hoops and raise the payroll APPROACHING $300M" I'm asking again how do you figure that the Yankees would have been anywhere near that amount.

Okay....I said "300 mil"..... take me out to the woodshed and give me a sound thrashing.....in the meantime, by not signing Max and/or Lester that saves ABOUT 20 mil, Prado's 11mil is gone, they saved 5 mil over the contract of Miller over Drob (plus a draft pick after the 1st round), McCarthy no 12,5 mil, Ervin Santana no 13.5 mil, maybe a deal for Howie Kendrick no 9.8 mil, the great Masterson? No 9.5 mil there, Nelson Cruz? lol.forget his 14.2 mil, Shields? No 10 mil there, your boy Jed Lowrie? No 8 mil here...lol.....Asdrubal Cabrera no 7.5 mil.....

No offense intended, seriously, but can't "we" just understand that Cashman and Hal believe they have plenty of big contract players some of which are at the turning points of their careers and Cashman/Hal are indeed willing to go at least one more year to see what kind of return they'll get for their bucks.

I can't blame them....I don't think it's outrageous to go with what they have....and they will also be incorporating a couple of inexpensive young players to the team.

Yep, I missed Cano's RBI ability in 014, tho' I should of clarified, I sure as hell would NOT of paid him the amount of cashe he wanted, or the 10 year contract, which IMO, is flat out ludicrous.....

IMO, the Yanx initial offer to Robinson was Fair, as it gets, but then Money meant a whole lot more to Cano, than being born a Yankee and dying one....no true loyalty to the Brand.....thus in that case, he's much better off in Seattle, regardless of missing his run production......

Why so? Because I didn't give Cashman an "F" grade?
Don't become ignorant with me Rick...at the risk of you thinking I need some kind of pat on the back or starving for your approval, is there ANYTHING I ever say which isn't off the wall or just plain old wrong? Cmon, dig yourself man.

B- is what SI projected....before Shields was signed and subsequent moves since 1/30.....

Still too high by a full grade.

Get over YOURSELF with your convalescing little snide insulting comments.
You're beginning to act some little impatient dictator who stamps his feet and and shakes his head when he has a problem with people trying to explain their reasoning when it doesn't quite jibe with your expert, never wrong viewpoint.
