...borderline HOFer Minnie Minoso dead at 92. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/12403240/minnie-minoso-first-black-mlb-player-chicago-dies
Loved watching him play..............except against the Yankees. Versatile in the field and at the bat. Could do everything. R.I.P. Minnie.
RIP. Minnie. Very fine player fringe almost HOFer.....excellent career. Also faced other struggles as both a black player and the (Spanish) language issue. An all time favorite player across the board amoung all fans.
...I vaguely remember getting my very first Mantle card as a kid...after repeatedly picking up several soda bottles to get the the 2 cent deposit for each one for multiple packs of Baseball cards at the "5 and dime" store with hopes of finding the holy grail of cards...a new Mickey Mantle card. ...I finally gave up and traded another kid in the neighborhood for his "used" Mantle card in exchange for a Minnie Minoso and Duke Snider. (I think) ...I also probably wasted several cards that would now be considered collectable because if they were not Yankees players they generally were either traded away or they were attached to my bicycle with clothes pins so that they made that cool sound in my spokes....ahhhhhh, good times. ...lol, youtube has a video for everything;
Gotta love the laugh. A lot of memories, right up there with putting taps on your shoes to sound cool.
In his salad years 1951-61, he hung around four more years past his prime putting up weak numbers..... .....but from '51-'61 he averaged .305 BA, .395 OBP, ,471 slg% and .866 ops. His 162 game avgs were 70 BB, 47 K and 52 xbh. Pretty darn good.
