And A-Rod will be doing what, pitching long relief out of the bull pen?

Well Rick, it's funny you should bring him up.
I believe, excluding any off field stuff, this can go a couple of ways.

He hasn't played in a full year and only 44 games the prior year.
Has had hip problems and wasn't very good, or very bad the last time he DID play.

There has never been any questions about his on field hustle and work ethic.
He isn't quite "40 years old" until the end of July and quite possibly his body may have benefitted from a year of "rest" and I believe this spoiled imperfect large brat also has a ton of pride as a ball player and just enough left to prove "something".

And of course I could be very wrong. This is a thin limb I'm clinging to.

And I realize how and why it's so simple for most to feel that he MUST be washed up and is kaput.
But I have an inkling that you know where I stand on Aroid (lol) and this season.....
....and NO, I'm not expecting 450 ABs or 30 HRs.
I haven't totally lost my mind. lol, thought you might like that.

True Tom but his #s were never as bad as they were last season. And if it does get worse he'll have a tough time signing with any team when his Yankee career is over. I'd say he has a lot to prove this coming season.

Agree on Drew, I also believe his hold out and missing ST hurt him.
He'll turn 32 yrs old this month and up until 2013 only a couple yrs ago before last year's wash-out, he averaged .264 BA, .329 OBP, .435 slg% and .764 ops.
He's not a player in his mid-late 30s and still has a good glove and range.
From the start of his career 2006 to 2013 he had 3 seasons with OPS over .800 and 2 seasons of mid-700 OPS. I wouldn't expect him to return to those numbers but these are some of the reasons why I didn't have a major problem if the Yanks brought him back BEFORE the Gregorious trade. And he should be able to take advantage of RF at YS.

As for Headley, when the Yanks were in negotiations with him I said I didn't think he was a "difference maker" in the division.
But he is good if not a prototypical slugging 3b.
I'm beginning to think there's a good chance (if he stays healthy of course) he's going to be better than expected.
    He's a career .265 hitter and has a healthy .347 OBP and .756 ops.
With the exception of his big 2012 season, he'll hit about 9-13 HRs.

He gets his hits, gets on base and plays a good 3b but there's another factor.
His home/ away numbers are revealing.
Playing in SD his slash lines were: .249/.335/.376/.711.
However his career road numbers are:
    .285 BA, .359 OBP, .440 slg%, .799 ops

I think he'll benefit playing at Yankee Stadium and he's going to help solidify the infield and lineup. I hope he stays healthy, I think the Yanks "bought" a good one. lol
