Just to name a few:-Phoenix trades Jason Kidd to Nets for Stephon MarburyThe New Jersey Nets win their division a few times and make the Finals twice thanks to this deal. The Suns were the 8th seed a few times, and once didn't even make the playoffs.-Bulls trade Elton Brand to Clippers for Tyson ChandlerThe Los Angeles Clippers got a star, who eventually led the Clippers to the playoffs. The Bulls got a above average post defender who was a sign of hope. He was one half of the baby bulls, and they were a lottery team for a few seasons.-Pistons trade Grant Hill to Orlando for Ben Wallace and Chucky AtkinsThe Orlando Magic recieve an injury-prone Grant Hill who just takes up salary for many years. The Pistons get the face of their franchise, a four time DPOY Ben Wallace, and a starting Point Guard, Chucky Atkins. With the help of Wallace and the trade bait of Atkins, the Pistons win the 2004 Title. There are many more. The Lakers/Heat Shaquille O'Neal Deal was definately not a steal. (Dang what a rhyme) The Lakers got Caron Butler, which led to Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom, and Brian Grant :ranting: , but Lamar is a versitale forward and solid number two option, and Kwame has a ton of potential and is a stud on defense. The Lakers didn't make the playoffs one year, but Shaq is wearing down now. They got youth from the deal, so they can't complain.
Boston traded the 1st and 13th draft picks of the 1980 NBA draft to the Golden State Warriors for Robert Parish and the 3rd pick. They used the 3rd pick to select Kevin McHale. Parish, McHale, and Bird formed the best front court in league history. Talk about a bargain...Wilt Chamberlain became a steal TWICE, He went to the Sixers for Connie Dierking and Paul Neumann. Then he went to the Lakers for Archie Clark and Darrall Imhoff. There were some other players involved but the names are slipping my mind.Sonics trade: Scottie Pippen to the Chicago Bulls for Olden Polynice.Celtics trade: Chauncey Billups for Kenny Anderson.Bucks trade: Kareem Abdul Jabbar and William Wesley to the Lakers for Brian Winters, Elmore Smith, and Junior Bridgeman
Dirk Notwitzzki for Pat Garrity and Tractor Taylor (Milwaukee and Dallas)Scottie Pippen for Olden Polynice (draft day trade (Seattle and Chicago))Kobe Bryant for Vlade Divac (draft day trade (Charlotte (Hornets (at the time)) and Los Angeles (Lakers)))
In all fairness to the Magic Grant Hill was not injury prone at the time he was traded. He was widely regarded as the potential successor to Michael Jordan's throne. He and T-Mac were supposed to be the new Jordan and Pippen, but Grant broke his ankle and has never been the same since. Hill actually could've signed with Orlando, but Wallace and Atkins were traded instead so Detroit could get a little something and Hill could make more money. At the time neither player was thought of as anything better than average. If Grant Hill doesn't break his ankle we would've seen an awesome Lakers-Magic rivalry. I doubt LA would've won all 3 championships.
The Grizzlies trade conditional 1st rnd pick(turned out to be the 2nd overall pick in the 2003 draft) to Detriot for Otis Thorpe.I guess Detriot didnt get much outve it with Milicic, but if Memphis had kept it, we would have Carmelo Anthony without a doubt.
Vince Carter for Eric Williams, Aaron Williams, Zo (never played for us), and a 1st round pick (just an average player in Joey Graham. The Williams' turned out to be scrubs, and both are gone now...It was just a terrible trade.2006 edition: JR Smith for Adrian Griffin. JR is very talented. He's gotta jumper, and excellent athleticism. He's doing great things for the Nuggets, whereas Adrian Griffin is nailed to the bench.
I don't blame the Bulls though. They have enough youth, and they needed veteran leadership. There was nothing wrong with trading a youthful guy for a guy that would help more in the post season. Besides, Adrian Griffen has pretty terrific defense.

It was a steal for the Nuggets..
Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins for Kwame BrownI love how this season everyone's acting like Kwame is a great player. His post defense is pretty good, but he's still only averaging 9 and 7...Caron on the other hand is averaging 17 and 8...And until the Lakers DO something the Shaq trade has to be considered a steal right now.Heat- Eastern Conference Finals; NBA ChampsLakers- Out of playoffs; First round exitSo until proven otherwise, the Laker/Heat trade is a steal.

If you look at those players right now and how they are playing, it was a great trade for the Lakers. Shaq is obviously on the downfall of his carear and while he did win a ring with Miami, it wasn't because of him. Shaq had a guy named Dwyane Wade who really carried the Heat last season. Also, just because the Heat have had more success as far as playoffs doesn't make the trade a 'steal', it would only be a steal if the main reason they had success was because of Shaq..which is not the truth. The Lakers got the better deal here with a young, upcoming point guard in the league in Farmar, an all-star canidate in Lamar and a revamped Kwame Brown. Not to mention getting rid of aging Shaq's gigantic contract which led to the Lakers re-signing Kobe.
Yeah, the Shaq trade was brilliant for the Lakers in the end. Losing Shaq was inevitable and they had to do it fast, or Kobe would walk. They didn't want to give him up to a Western Conference team and Miami was their best offer. Losing Shaq sucked, but they made the best out of a bad situation. The Washington deal benefited both teams, there is no way the Lakers lost that deal. They needed post D and someone who could bang inside, Kwame fit the profile perfectly. Caron was good for them but with Kwame coming in Lamar was able to move back down to SF and Lamar Odom>Caron Butler. Chucky Atkins did nothing for either team.

Shaq might not be the biggest reason for them winning the championship last year, but he is a huge reason for this team being so good and a big time part of why they won the championship. Without Shaq, the Heat would not have won a championship.

He's the fire for the Nets and why they made the playoffs the past 2 seasons.
