E'Twaun Moore seems to have come into his own since Rose went down. As I've said before, I'm ready to see more Moore. Aaron Brooks has been starting at PG since Rose's injury and has put up some pretty scary numbers as a starter, like .276 FG, .250 3-point and an eye-popping .359 TrueShooting (among qualified players, the worst TS% in the NBA is Gary Harris's .364). Though he's only started 7 games this season, it kinda looks like maybe starting is not really Brooks's thing. Hinrich's not the answer, so why not give Moore a shot at it?
The perfectly sound reason for not starting Moore at point guard is that Thibs intends to play him at off guard in the playoffs and is trying to preserve his rotations as best he can. I think that makes sense. Brooks has played well for extended stretches this season even if he isn't now. I think his play has earned him a spot in the playoff rotations. This rationale has the added benefit, at least to me, of knocking Hinrich out of the playoff rotations. The other possibility is that Thibs is just being obstinate.
Moore has played 331 minutes at PG for his career. He's an SG. Given the alternative, let him learn as backup.
IMO, there's a chance that Moore is what Bulls' management hoped Hinrich would be for them this season...a rotation-level backup at both the 1 and 2. Now would be the perfect time to find out if Moore has it in him. If it works, you're maximizing not only Moore's value, but you're putting Brooks back in a role where he's had success.
I agree with you 100%, Moore has played quite well recently when he actually gets minutes (a recurring theme with Thibs coaching), why not let him start at PG to see what he can do? Brooks has been downright disgusting as the starter, and Kirk's play speaks for itself. According to 82games.com, Moore has played ~650 minutes at Point Guard in his first three seasons, I'd like to see what he can do as the starter. Who knows, maybe he's good enough at it to displace Brooks as the backup PG when Derrick is healthy?
That's another great point, it's well known that Pax loves combo guards (probably because he was a combo guard).
The thing is, E'Twan is not really great at generating assists. Out of Brooks, Hinrich and E'Twan is the worst at that. E'Twan does have the highest TS% out of the three. He turns the ball over less out of the three. I think it would make some sense with this current roster, since the offense is running through Noah so much.
Starting Moore isn't a good idea yet. Best suited as a shooting guard and needs to learn how to be a spark plug on both ends for the Bulls off the bench come playoff time. Kirk should have most of his minutes given to Moore.
I still want to push Moore until he either succeeds or I can clearly hear him suck. I think he'll succeed.
