9 games, no presure & stats really shouldn't matter, And yes I'm trying to convince myself. Through today's game....... Drew 1-11 Gregorius 1-12 Teixeira 3-12 Gardner 2-12 Ellsbury 2-15 Beltran 0-7 Headley 4-13 McCann 2-8 A-Rod 4-9 But fear not, there's hope yet.................. Pirela 6-13 Refsnyder 5-11 Bird 5-10
Through spring and into the first week of May we'll see 210 hitters hitting 375 with 4 or 5 home runs, the regular boppers will hit 205 and strike out in twos and threes. The good pitchers won't hit a bull in the ass with a shovel while newbies will throw gas. Things then go in to bloom in May and the pennant chat will be gone by the June Swoon. I don notice probably as the rest of you that while we are concerned about our team there are folks from other teams getting bit by the injury bippy. I'd like to see a couple of those kids step up and force Cashmans hand to get rid of people like Drew for starters.
As long as he's healthy Arod clearly still play the game. Whether or not he can still generate any power is the real question.
...he's not exactly hitting rockets...and probably won't. ...and with 2 bad hips I don't think he'll able to start his swing with his lower body and likely won't generate much power.
The grind of ST, tho' nothing major, or is it? It well could be demanding enough to sideline #13, by Opening Day. Let alone the thought of a full season; will wear A-Roid out by the start of the season..... now that's an oxymoron, not the sentence the Asshole wearing #13.... If not, he won't make it to the A.S. break, if he makes it out of ST with both hips intact.... I would take any one's stats in ST, with a grain of salt. Recall Andy Phillips .400 B'Avg performance in 06, which won him the 1st base job over Giambi......check the stats, Andy sucked the rest of the season, an approx .240 B'Avg; scoring and RBI's with a paltry end sum of, less than 30 times. ST is to work the arms loose, get the bugs out of all facets of the game. Basically blow out the cobwebs and rust. If Alex looks halfway decent in ST, that won't surprise me, a helluva lot of rookies look like the next coming of Micky Mantle in ST, then fall on their faces, once the real games that count begin. Alex will be fit this mold. IMO....
But he has hit two clean line drive singles to left field. He has stated (Meridith) he's not concerned yet with his lateral movement defensively and just wants to make the routine plays, spoken like a guy/veteran who realizes his bat is what will (hopefully) be the reason he makes it into the lineup (primarily as a DH) and help this team. He knows exactly what the score is.
Agree - there was NEVER a question that this guy isn't a gamer AND has played through pain ( when he was being ridiculed for his offensive slack off)....I think he has been more embarrassed with his on field performance (recent history) than anything else because above all, he has as much pride and competiveness as anybody else on this Yankee team and IMO the only reason why he may make HIS decision to pack it in is if his body just can't withstand the everyday rigors, otherwise, IMO, he will provide improved production from one of those black holes from the offense of the 2014 team -- the DH position.
We will see, but I really doubt it, you can't gauge any players performance by ST alone..... not until he's seen live game pitching, real games, not ST games.....
Not quite sure what is so funny about a 39 year old who has had a year rest who the LAST time he played (2013) albeit in just 44 games managed to put up a higher OPS than ANY Yankee from last year's team. I think its safe to say he AND the Yankees probably aren't expecting more than 350 or so ABs from him (primarily DHs) with 15(?)-or more HRs......so, no offensive intended but, what the heck do you find so funny. Wait, here's another funny tidbit for you, he hit 7 HRs in 156 ABs the last time he was in iniform for the Yanks......lol
...what's funny is that you actually think ARod has been hitting the ball hard. ...didn't see his other LF hit but the first one was anything but a rocket...it was a low flare that barely made the OF grass.
And what is so inconsequential about Headley's 4-13 and Arod's 4-9 which includes a HR, oh, but I forgot......one of those hits was a bloop double which of course isn't so bad because you do need legs to run to 2nd base and considering he should be crumbling and falling apart any day now,....... lol
