Is it possible that in a year or two we could have a new core 4 made up of guys like, Pirela, Judge, Refsnyder & Bird. I for one hope so. Unfortunately I think we'll have to wait until the Yankees are done with guys like Teixeira, Drew & Beltran.
...it would be nice, but from what I've seen so far of Refsnyder and Pirela, they both need to improve their defense quite a bit...hopefully they'll improve.
But that would make it the core 5 & that doesn't work...........................................................................it doesn't rhyme.
Of course you're not referring to "I'm a happy man" Eugine Pitts & the JIVE FIVE? or the "Little darlin DIAMONDS? Sadly I do think the front office will eventually do something stupid & use one or more these kids in a foolish trade.
No in this case the "Jive Five" would be Hal, Hank, Levine, Cashman and pick out one more of the brass. I don't pick on girls to I left the Steinbrenner Chicks. No a fan of Doo Wop but when stationed up in Massachusetts I used to park on the Merrimac River with this chick and we'd spend time playing adult games while listening to the JC Golden Oldies Show and the dude would spin those tunes to include "My True Story"
Sorry I was much too late for the Big Bands. My first into to Music were the American Pop Singers of the Fifties. Sinatra, Damone, Bennett, Page, Day and the like. That and visits to West Virginia got me going on the Grand Old Opry. The along came Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins and that crew. Always got a huge kick out of the Knights of the Round Table flicks with the Lute Player singing to the pretty Lady. Robin Hood might have been the Sherwood Forest bad ass but I'll bet Alan -A-Dale was singing to and banging Maid Marion while Robin was doing his feats of derring do. There were a couple of doo wop tunes I liked my favorite being "One Summer Night" by the Danleers.
Me, I'm a big fan. Anything from the Moonglows to Johnny Maestro & Crests, The Harptones to the Larry Chance & the Earls, Duprees, capris, Skyliners, right up to Dion & the Belmonts.
Back to the subject though that Jive Five Yankee Brass needs to be broken up and replaced. A quick fix to show Yankee Fans that the course will be corrected would be to get Jeter into the ownership group. I'm seeing a lot of empty seats over there at Steinbrenner Field and that may well carry over to the big park in the Bronx.
I use to laugh during last season when the stadium looked 1/2 empty in the 5th inning & the guys in the booth would announce the crowd at 35-40,000+. I use to think, "What are they seeing that I'm not?"
In past years when Yankee ST Tickets went on sale they were gobbled up quickly. This year not so, even with a chance to go throw batteries at A-hole could spike sales.
Pirela kinda looks like one of those natural born hitters? The Yanks WILL find a spot for him. They also have this kid Jake Cave (CF/O.F.) who by most reports I've seen does everything except hit with power very well and appears to be making good rapid progress.
